Chapter 188
โGet off me!โ
Aurora tried to push Lucas away, but the difference in strength between them was too great. She struggled for a long time, but he didnโt budge an inch, still pressing down on her. Eventually, when she was completely exhausted, her resistance began to weaken. Taking the chance, Lucas grabbed both her wrists and pinned them above her head.
Auroraโs eyes widened. She snapped, โLucas, what the hell are you doing? Let go of me right now!โ
Lucas leaned in close, his voice brushing against her ear. โHora, what do you think Iโm doing? Weโre legally married, arenโt we?โ
Aurora shook her head furiously. โI donโt want this! Let me go!โ
Just thinking about what might happen next made her struggle even more desperately. Lucas stared at her, clearly hurt by her resistance. In the end, her efforts became too intense, and he was afraid of hurting her, so he reluctantly let go.
โWhatโs going on?โ he asked, his voice thick with confusion and hurt. โCan you please just talk to me?โ
Even if Aurora didnโt want to admit it, the pain and bewilderment in his tone were impossible to miss.
โIf thereโs nothing else, then leave. I told youโIโm tired.โ
Still, Aurora stuck to her earlier stance. She didnโt want to talk anymore. Deep down, she just felt pathetic. After all, he had already brought Wendy back to the house. Whatever happened after that would only seem natural, wouldnโt it? Especially when that girl was his so-called true love heโd cherished for so long.
So, what was she still being dramatic about? Once she thought it through, Aurora even felt like slapping herself. Sometimes, she didnโt understand why she insisted on caring so much.
Lucas saw Aurora turn her face away in silence. Thinking of how hard sheโd struggled just moments ago, he said nothing more and quietly turned to leave.
Once he was gone, Aurora felt as if all the strength had drained from her body. She collapsed to the floor, completely limp. Just thinking about what had happened made her chest tremble uncontrollably. If he already had someone he liked, then why had he married her in the first place? Why had he gotten involved with her at all? Aurora couldnโt make sense of it. No one could give her an answer.
After leaving the room, Lucas didnโt return to the master bedroom. Instead, he headed straight for the car and drove off.
Wendy, sleeping in the guest room, heard the sound of the engine and couldnโt help the triumphant smile tugging at her lips.
Chapter 159
โJust as I thought. You couldnโt hold back, could you, Aurora?โ
Arms crossed, she leaned against the wall, pressing her ear tightly to the door, trying to catch every sound outside. When everything finally quieted down, she smiled to herself. The plan was moving along perfectly. Next step? Let the rift between them deepen until it cracked wide open. Then, sheโd step in and comfort Lucasโ wounded heart.
Feeling satisfied, Wendy took a long, hot shower and slipped into bed with a contented smile.
As for Aurora, she lay on her back staring blankly at the ceiling, eyes vacant, lost in thoughts she couldnโt even sort through.
Lucas drove to a bar, dragging Desmond out of bed on the way. He claimed he wanted to drink, but really, it was just David sitting beside him, watching his boss drown his frustration in alcohol.
