Aurora’s heart skipped a beat. She jerked her head up to look at Grace, disbelief flickering in her eyes. So, Grace had started to turn on her just like that? Did she think she was no longer useful?

But Grace didn’t even acknowledge the disbelief in her gaze. To her, Aurora had already become a liability to the company’s image and reputation. Even if she didn’t step in, the board would likely move to impeach her. It was better to be the bad guy herself.

“Madam Grace, what… what do you mean by this?” Aurora’s voice trembled. It was clear she was feeling extremely uncomfortable.

Tessa, watching from the side, was nearly bursting with laughter. “So, even Aurora Walton wasn’t untouchable after all,” she thought. Didn’t she used to throw her weight around just because Grace favored her? Tessa wanted to see just how arrogant Aurora could be now. If it weren’t for the timing, Tessa would’ve laughed out loud.

Grace’s expression remained cold and stern. “What do I mean? I gave you this position so you could serve the company better, not so you could do as you pleased.”

“I didn’t–Madam Grace, I don’t even know what he’s talking about. I’ve had no contact with him at all.”

But Grace’s tone had completely changed from the praise she once gave her. “That’s your problem. This incident has affected the company, so I will deal with it.”

Before Aurora could finish, Tessa cut her off. “Alright, Aurora, don’t be so hard on Mom,” Tessa stepped forward, gently massaging Grace’s back with a look of concert. “You know her health hasn’t been great lately. Why can’t you just be more obedient? And besides, what she said was for your own good. She’s been running this company alone for so long. She’s exhausted.”

Aurora’s expression darkened. “I know that perfectly well. You don’t need to remind me.” She could see right through Tessa’s sudden act of concern. What was she really up to? Stirring the pot, obviously. But she wasn’t stupid. Now was not the time to go head-to-head with her. “I care about Mom’s health too.”

Tessa kept working her hands over Grace’s shoulders, speaking casually, “If you really cared, you wouldn’t have let something like this go viral online.”

“And your ex showed up at the company a few days ago, causing a scene.” The moment that was brought up, Grace’s eyes snapped open.

She shot Aurora a sharp look. “If Tessa hadn’t reminded me, I’d have forgotten about that incident entirely. If you truly cared about my health, you’d stop giving me headaches like this.”

Aurora kept her eyes on Tessa, not missing a flicker of expression on her face. That fleeting trace of smugness didn’t escape her notice.

“Understood, Mother,” she said quietly. Aurora lowered her gaze, choosing not to provoke Grace at a time like this. There was no point in going against her–it would only backfire. Right now, the priority was to deal with the mess online.

Grace studied Aurora’s current demeanor and couldn’t help but start to question whether appointing her as general manager had been the right decision after all.

Tessa picked up on her mother’s hesitation and smoothly chimed in, “Mom, don’t get too worked up. If you fall ill, I’ll be the one worrying. And besides, now that Aurora’s stirred up all this trouble, won’t you be the one left to clean up the mess anyway?”
