Chapter 208
She nodded repeatedly. "Don't worry, Encas, Iโd never let your wife down."
After getting out of the car, Megan bounced away cheerfully.
Once she was gone, the atmosphere inside the car immediately turned quiet.
Being alone in such a confined space, especially given how things had been lately, made the air feel heavy and awkward.
Lucas tried to ease the tension. "Ahem, since Megan has left, why canโt you sit in the front?"
โNo need. Iโm fine right here,โ Aurora replied firmly, without the slightest hesitation.
Ever since the day she saw Lucas in a room with Wendy, her feelings toward him had become complicated.
Now, just seeing him made her think of Wendy, like a reflex.
It was as if she were the third party in all of this.
And every time that thought crossed her mind, she found it laughable.
Lucas gripped the steering wheel, his voice low and husky. "The view from the front seat is much better than the back."
Aurora caught the implied meaning right away and calmly replied, "But the front seat is also the most dangerous spot."
With that one sentence, she completely shut down anything Lucas had been about to say.
It wasnโt that Aurora didnโt know how to hold a conversationโshe just didnโt want to have one with him.
Seeing how disinterested she looked, Lucas gave up and stayed silent for the rest of the ride. They returned home in complete silence.
When Wendy saw the two of them walk in together, her heart sank.
Why were they arriving together? Had they made up already?
Trying to sound casual, she asked, "Aurora, itโs so late. Where have you and Lukey been?"
โWhat, do we need to report everything to you now?โ Aurora looked at the curiosity in Wendyโs eyes and found it utterly ridiculous.
So, Lucas was really going to let his so-called true love spy on their lives just like that?
Wendy stood there dumbly, her mouth slightly open.
She looked at Lucas and tried to explain, โLukey, thatโs not what I meant. Itโs just so late, and I was a little worried about you both."
โWhy is she always so hostile toward me? Lukey, you should talk to her. I really didnโt mean anything by it.โ
Her eyes welled up, and she looked utterly wronged, as if sheโd been gravely misunderstood.
The helpless panic on her face even stirred sympathy from those around her.
Unfortunately for Wendy, all her efforts were wasted in the wrong place.
All the things she did for Lucas were all for nothing.
โSheโs right here in front of you, isnโt she?" Lucas said with a frown.
โIf thatโs the case, you couldโve just told her yourself. Why would I need to relay the message?"
A sudden snort escaped Aurora. This time, she really couldnโt hold it in.
She caught Lucasโ expression from the corner of her eyeโhe looked completely serious, not the least bit hesitant.
No matter what, those two sentences heโd just spoken were definitely sincere.
Lucas furrowed his brows and looked at her, still confused about what heโd said wrong.
โLukey!โ Wendy stomped her foot in frustration, but when it came to what Lucas had said, she didnโt even know how to argue against it.
All that effort was like throwing change at a brick wall.
Aurora glanced at Wendyโs face, a mess of shifting expressions like a mood ring on overdrive, and couldnโt help but laugh to herself.
It was trueโsome people really did wear their emotions like a flashing neon sign.
