Chapter 256

In an instant, her mood soured.

So, Aurora was definitely on her way backโ€“Lucas' expression had already said it all.

Wendy clenched her fists, a surge of frustration bubbling in her chest. โ€œAurora Walton, you damn bitch. If you didn't want to come back in the first place, then why return now? What's the point? Do you think it's fun to toy with people like this?โ€

The curve of Lucasโ€™s lips felt like a knife to Wendyโ€™s eyes. She couldn't understand himโ€“after being strung along like that, how could he still look so happy?

Lucas glanced at her, and clarity struck. Without hesitation, he said, โ€œGo out for a bit tonight.โ€

The words hit her like a thunderclap. Wendy pointed at herself, stunned. โ€œAre you kicking me out?โ€

Her voice cracked, thick with disbelief and hurt. After knowing him for so long, was Lucas really throwing her out over someone else? Just the thought of it made her chest tighten. She could barely breathe.

Lucas frowned. โ€œYouโ€™re an adult. You should have your own life, not spend every day here.โ€

Wendy didnโ€™t respond. She just stood there, eyes brimming with tears, staring at him like a wounded puppy. That look left Lucas at a loss for words.

But before either of them could say anything else, the sound of a car engine came from outside. Lucas immediately realizedโ€“it had to be Aurora. This wasnโ€™t the right moment to send Wendy away. If Aurora walked in and thought he was flustered, it would only make things worse.

With no other choice, he shot Wendy a sharp warning glance. The look in his eyes said it allโ€“he was telling her to behave.

Wendy pressed her lips together and said nothing. Instead, she gave Lucas a sweet, obedient smile. Only then did he feel slightly more at ease.

When Aurora walked in, the first thing she saw was Wendy sitting at the table, and on the table, a beautifully arranged plate of mille-feuille pancakes. Just by looking at them, she could already tell they were made with care.

She ignored the subtle challenge in Wendyโ€™s gaze and turned her eyes to Lucas. โ€œYou made this?โ€

Lucas nodded. โ€œYeah. Try it. See how it tastes.โ€

โ€œExactly, Aurora. Lukey made it just for you,โ€ Wendy chimed in, her voice tinged with envy and jealousy. โ€œHonestly, youโ€™re the only one who could make him go to such lengths. And even then, he had to ask you over and over before you finally agreed to come back."

"If it were me, I wouldnโ€™t take his kindness for granted the way you do.โ€

The moment Wendy saw Aurora, all the promises sheโ€™d just made to Lucas vanished into thin air.

Lucas' expression turned icy, the cold fury rising in his eyes. His hands, hanging loosely at his sides, slowly curled into fists. A moment ago, there had still been a trace of hope on his faceโ€“but now, it vanished completely.

He looked at Wendy, his voice low and sharp. โ€œThis is between me and her. Itโ€™s not your place to say anything. Mind your own business. Thatโ€™s the last time Iโ€™m going to warn you.โ€

Wendy fell silent at once. She rarely saw Lucas like this, but when she did, it meant he was truly angry.

Aurora was taken aback by his reaction. She hadnโ€™t expected that.
