Lucas let out a cold snort. “This is your last warning.” With that, he turned and headed back to the bedroom. Wendy stared at the mess left on the table. Her thoughts drifted to the wager she’d made with her brother, and her hands slowly curled into fists. She wasn’t going to lose. She couldn’t afford to.

Taking a deep breath, Wendy narrowed her eyes. There was no way she’d let someone like Aurora get in her way. If that woman wanted to fight for Lucas, she better be ready because Wendy would snatch him back the moment she had the chance. Determination burned in her gaze, fiercer than ever.

Meanwhile, Lucas stepped into the bedroom just as the sound of running water came from the bathroom. His thoughts turned to what Aurora had said earlier. Was she jealous? A flicker of amusement and something deeper passed through his dark eyes.

Lucas had come intending to explain what Wendy had said, but the moment his eyes fell on Aurora, skin still damp, flushed cheeks, towel barely clinging to her curves, his mind blanked. “L… Rora, can we talk?” he asked, voice hoarse as he struggled to pull his gaze away, forcing himself to focus elsewhere.

But Aurora had no interest in having an awkward conversation like this. “I don’t want to talk right now.” She hadn’t even put on clothes yet, and the situation couldn’t be more uncomfortable.

Brushing past him, the soft scent of roses that clung to her skin drifted into his senses, sending a fresh wave of heat through him. Lucas swallowed hard, the motion of his Adam’s apple betraying the tension he fought to contain. In the next second, he reached out and caught her wrist, his eyes fixed on her lips, dark and intense. “Rora… can we make things right again?”

His voice dropped, almost pleading, filled with something raw, like a stray left out in the rain, desperate for warmth. Aurora’s ears flushed deeper red from embarrassment. “What are you doing? I’m not even angry anymore. Let go.” All she wanted now was to run and get dressed as fast as she could, because being in a state like this was as good as being naked.
