Chapter 275
The dark cloud that had lingered on Lucasโ face completely vanished the moment he saw Aurora. If anyone were to look closely, they could even spot the faint curve of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He stood quietly at the edge of the bed, eyes soft as he gazed at her peaceful profile. Warmth spread through his chest like sunlight after rain. โAurora, donโt leave meโฆ okay?โ he whispered. He reached out, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, revealing her delicate features in full. The affection in his eyes grew, slow and steady. In that still, quiet moment, they simply leaned into each otherโclose, warm, and entirely at peace.
The next morning, Aurora slowly blinked awake, stretching with a soft yawn. As her right arm reached up, it bumped into something. She turned her head with a frown and was immediately hit with a full-on beauty assault. Lucasโ handsome face was inches from hers, calm and serene in sleep. Just as she registered what she was seeing, his hand caught hers with perfect timing and brought it to his lips for a light kiss. โMorning,โ he murmured, voice low and raspy. That deep, velvety tone brought her fully back to reality. She shoved him away, still slightly dazed. โWhen did you get here?โ Lucas, eyes half-lidded with satisfaction, replied, โLast night, of course.โ
With her in his arms, heโd slept better than he had in ages. There were no nightmares or tension. That peace lingered in his mood even now, softening the sharp edges he usually carried. Aurora glanced down, checking what she had on. She was still wearing the same pajamas from last night. Relief washed over her in an instant. Lucas caught that look and smirked. โWhatโs that about? Weโre practically an old married couple now. If I had done anythingโฆ itโd be totally legal.โ
Aurora was momentarily speechless, unable to come up with a comeback. She yanked her hand away, flustered. โKnock it off. Youโre so full of nonsense. Iโm goingโฆโ Lucas let out a helpless sigh. โAlright, alright. I wonโt bother you.โ
Aurora climbed out of bed quickly, heading straight to change clothesโmostly to hide the flush blooming behind her ears. No matter how many times she looked at him, Lucasโ face still got to her. That face was exactly her type. Every angle and every detail was pure heartthrob. It was practically impossible to remain calm when facing him. She took a deep breath, composed herself, and headed to the office.
It wasnโt until she arrived that she rememberedโafter all the drama last night, she still didnโt find out what Lucasโ family actually did. She shook her head in frustration. Megan really couldnโt be counted on for this sort of thing. Next time, sheโd rely on herself instead. Settling into her office chair, Aurora started sorting through work.
Soon, a call came in from John overseas, updating her that the collaboration was finally moving forward. He asked her to draft the contract on her end and send it over for review. Aurora replied without hesitation. โNo problem at all.โ Once the call ended, her eyes gleamed with ambition. John was a key clientโone she was determined to keep close. He was her gateway into the international market, and if she could establish this path solidly, she wouldnโt have to worry about future contacts or channels. John represented the perfect bridge abroad, especially with LCโs reputation to back it.
Meanwhile, someone from Vanguard had stopped by to review Auroraโs progress and report back to Grace. They had nothing but praise. โMadam Grace, your general manager is impressive. The next wave truly is pushing the last forward!โ โExactly. With Miss Walton around, I believe our partnership will only grow stronger.โ โAbsolutely. Weโre getting old, itโs up to this new generation now.โ
