Chapter 278
One of the executives discreetly mentioned to Aurora that if this project was executed well, their boss might consider further collaboration down the line.
Auroraโs eyes lit up. โMr. Warden, are you serious?โ
He nodded confidently, clearly impressed by her. โAbsolutely. Opportunities go to those who are prepared. If it were anyone else, I wouldnโt be saying this.โ
Aurora instantly understood what he was getting at: this project wasnโt just important; it was a potential game-changer.
She nodded. โGot it. Iโll make sure to keep this one firmly in my hands.โ
Everyone there had full confidence in Auroraโs abilities, so there was no need to say more.
Her career was blazing forward.
Meanwhile, Tessa had been watching everything unfold from the shadows. Seeing Aurora thrive like this, how could she possibly stay content?
Her thoughts drifted to Joseph, who had stopped her at the companyโs entrance not long ago. That man could very well be her way in.
Tessaโs red lips curled into a sly smile. โAurora, I wonder if your dear ex-boyfriend would come looking for you again if he found out how well youโre doing.
โHmโฆ After all, the two of you used to be so in love. Iโm just helping you rekindle things. No need to thank me.โ
She muttered to herself, then pulled up Josephโs contact. Without a second thought, she dialed his number.
At that moment, Joseph had been stuck at home under Melvinโs watch. Ever since the incident that got him into the police station and tanked Hunt Enterprisesโ stock, Melvin had grounded him completely, locking him up to reflect on his actions.
As for Judy, she was still staying at Josephโs apartment. The two had only been communicating by phone. Melvin had never approved of Judy. In his eyes, what benefit could a woman with no family background, no value, possibly bring to Hunt Enterprises?
Judy was never good enough for Joseph. Judy knew all of this, but there was nothing she could do.
Chapter 218
While whispering sweet nothings to Joseph, pretending she couldnโt bear to be apart from him, she was already scouting for her next wealthy target.
So, when Tessaโs call came through, Joseph was still stuck at home, under his motherโs watchful eye, forbidden from stepping out.
Seeing Tessaโs name flash across the screen, he was a little surprised. After a momentโs hesitation, he picked up.
โHello? What do you want?โ Josephโs tone was curt.
If it hadnโt been for that embarrassing scene at the Walton Corporationโs front desk, where he mistaken Tessa for Aurora, none of that mess wouldโve happened. Still, Tessa was the eldest heiress of the Walton familyโnot someone he could afford to offend.
Right now, Joseph was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Hearing his tone, Tessa instantly understood where his irritation came from. But she didnโt get angry.
Instead, her voice was calm and light. โCome on, Joseph, why so fired up?
โWeโve met before, havenโt we? That makes us acquaintances, and whoโs to say a chance encounter isnโt just fate in disguise?โ
She spoke slowly, almost coaxing, her tone gentle, but her eyes were full of disdain. If not for the goal of making Aurora look bad, sheโd never bother contacting a man like Joseph.
After all the ridiculous drama heโd caused, he was practically a joke in all of Ravenshore.
Joseph listened to her smooth, sweet words and immediately understood that this woman clearly wanted something. Over the past few days, heโd seen through her type: she wouldnโt lift a finger unless there was something in it for her.
โGo on then, what do you want from me?โ
