Aurora remained unfazed. โThatโs my choice. Even if Iโm married, I still have to be my own person.โ
Lucas suddenly shifted the topic. โRora, I donโt understand. What did I do wrong? Why are you always so guarded around me? Can we just sit down and talk?โ
It had been long enough. Lucas was tired of fighting with her. No matter what had happened between them, the fact remainedโthey were still husband and wife.
And then there was Joseph. Heโd actually shown up again today, pestering Aurora. That alone had pushed Lucas to his limit.
But when he said "talk," Aurora honestly didnโt know what there was to talk about. She didnโt know where to start.
โThereโs nothing to talk about.โ
She liked how things were nowโcalm, unbothered. Sheโd grown used to the peace. To her, there was no need to change anything.
After a moment, she added, โLetโs just keep things the way they are. It works. Thereโs no need to change it.โ
โIs this still about Wendy?โ Lucas asked, unable to stop himself.
He had already reached out to Kenneth, but all he said was that Wendy was an adult now, and he couldnโt control her. And Wendy flat-out refused to move out.
That put Lucas in an awkward position. He didnโt know what to do. His friendship with Kenneth went back too farโit wasnโt something he could just throw away. He didnโt want to make things difficult for him.
But as long as Wendy stayed in the house, he and Aurora would never go back to how they used to beโฆ
Before he could say more, Aurora shook her head. โItโs not because of her. And you donโt have to feel stuck.โ
Over time, Aurora had come to learn a bit more about Wendyโs situation. So, she had already let it go. It no longer bothered her the way it once did.
Chapter 295
Even so, Aurora still wanted her own space. Back then, sheโd only agreed to the marriage because she needed a foothold in Walton Corporation. Now that her goal was met, growing the company had already drained so much of her energy.
โLucas, people only have so much energy. Right now, I just want to rest and focus on my work.โ
โAnd what about Joseph Hunt?โ Lucas asked coldly.
Aurora froze, then looked up and met his sharp, hawk-like gaze. โHow do you know about that?โ
Lucas let out a dry scoff. โHe made such a scene outside your office building. You really think I wouldnโt find out?โ
Irritation rose in her chest. โYouโre keeping tabs on me?โ
โRora, I just want to protect you,โ Lucas said as he gently took her hand. His tone softened. โIf you give me the word, I promise that he wonโt come near you again. You donโt always have to be so strong. You can lean on me. Youโre allowed to show me the parts of yourself you try to hide from the world.โ
Aurora almost laughed out loud. She gave him a once-over. Was this really the same cold, unreadable man she used to know? Since when did he get so good at saying such sentimental things?
But stillโฆ
โWhat do you mean by that? What are you planning to do to Joseph?โ
Lucasโ company wasnโt anything more than a media firmโat least on the surface. So where did he get the confidence to speak so casually about โdealing withโ someone like Joseph?
She couldnโt help but ask, โDo you even know whoโs backing Joseph? Thatโs Hunt Enterprises weโre talking about.โ
