Chapter 326
Johnโs assistant had completely dropped his previously polite faรงade. He was now wearing a look of smug arrogance.
โIf youโre really here on behalf of Miss Walton, then why doesnโt she come herself? Why send someone soโฆ insignificant?โ
Ian clenched his fists, jaw tight with restraint. โIโm her sole assistant,โ he said through gritted teeth. โI am representing her.โ
The man scoffed, switching to a crisp foreign language as if to assert dominance. โThen have her come in person. Thatโs Mr. Johnโs instruction.โ
With that, he turned and disappeared back into the office, not sparing another glance at the man still standing outside.
Ian stood frozen, fuming. But there was nothing he could do. He knew that kind of boldness didnโt come from the assistant alone; someone like that wouldnโt dare speak this way unless John himself had given the order.
Left with no choice, he returned to Walton Corporation, irritation simmering under his skin. He relayed everything, word for word, to Aurora.
She rested her chin on her hands, looking relaxed and unbothered. โSo, he really said all that?โ
Ian nodded quickly. โExactly as I told you. That manโs a piece of work. He wasnโt like this beforeโa total switch in attitude.โ
Aurora, however, remained unfazed. โLet it go. Heโs just following orders. After all, heโs only echoing his superior. Thatโs the nature of the job.โ
At her calm response, Ianโs frustration slowly faded. It was the same for him, really. Heโd never go against Aurora either. His own loyalty shaped how he dealt with everyone else. โI understand now, Miss Walton.โ
Aurora smiled faintly. โItโs fine. If John wants me to go in person, then so be it. Whatโs one visit?โ
Her lips curved with quiet confidence, like someone already certain of the outcome.
Her assistant still looked uneasy. โBut Miss Walton, I really feel like Johnโs changed. He wasnโt like this with you before.โ
Aurora didnโt find it surprising at all. โWhen people change, it usually comes down to one thingโmoney. And if itโs about money, then itโs negotiable.โ
Hearing that, Ian nodded. She made a solid point. Still, he muttered, โBut doesnโt that make us look like weโre beneath them somehow?โ
Aurora gave a soft laugh. โRemember thisโpride means nothing. What matters is holding the money in your hands.โ
The spark in her eyes seemed to ignite something in him too. Her calm certainty had a way of pulling people in, giving them a sense of direction even in chaos.
And it made sense. Everything she said and did always came from a place of clarity and control. That was why heโd chosen to follow her from the start.
She wasnโt just bold and decisiveโshe handled problems with sharp precision. And honestly, there were moments when, as a man, he found himself humbled by her sheer presence. It made him reflect and want to do better.
And more than anything, it made him loyal. He wasnโt here for the paycheck. He stayed because working with Aurora meant learning things he couldnโt get anywhere else.
