Ha, what a piece of work. He had barely started doing anything before Aurora turned around and partnered with Randy. Had she planned this all along? To put it bluntlyโhad she already been lining up a backup before she even walked away? Johnโs grip on the steering wheel tightened, his face twisted with dark emotions. Soon, he arrived at Walton Corporationโs underground parking garage.
He had gone out of his way to ask around and found out Aurora had driven to work today. She would definitely come through the garage later. He just needed to wait here and catch her off guard. John got out of his car and started scouting the garage for Auroraโs vehicle. Once he spotted it, he crouched down stealthily behind it, hiding in the shadows.
But what he didnโt know was that someone else had caught the entire scene. Lucas had come to see Aurora and saw John squatting suspiciously behind her car. He arched a brow, eyes narrowing with sharp focus. Then he chuckledโlow and cold. There was no warmth in that laugh at all.
Lucas recognized the car immediately. No doubt, John had picked Auroraโs vehicle. He calmly pulled out his phone and made a call to Desmond. โBring a few people to the Walton garage. Weโve got trash to take out.โ โYes, sir,โ Desmond answered without hesitation. Even over the phone, he could hear just how ice-cold his bossโ voice was. Whoever messed with their CEO again really had a death wish.
Back in the garage, John remained crouched, glancing at his watch now and then, just waiting for Aurora to get off work. When she did, he was going to give that woman a piece of his mind and demand to know exactly what the hell she was thinking. He had only raised the price a littleโwas that really such a deal-breaker? It wasnโt like the deal was off the table. Why couldnโt she just obey and fall in line? John tightened his grip on the knife, a vow burning in his chest. This time, he would make sure Aurora learned a lesson sheโd never forget. Just as he glanced down at his watch, everything suddenly went darkโa sack was yanked over his head. He didnโt even get the chance to curse before something slammed into him, knocking him out cold. His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed.
Not long after, Desmond arrived and reported back to Lucas. โBoss, Iโll take him from here.โ Lucas gave a slight nod. โKeep him alive.โ Desmondโs eyes gleamed with excitement. โOf course. Itโs been a while since weโve had a reckless little pest like this. No way Iโm letting him die too fast.โ Lucas didnโt respond. He simply turned and headed toward the elevator, his stride steady and composed. Desmond had followed him long enough to understandโwhen Lucas didnโt say much, it meant everything had to be handled cleanly. No reminders needed. That was exactly what made Lucas so easy to follow.
As for John, he was dragged awayโstill inside the sack, unconscious. Desmond didnโt bother to have anyone carry him properly. He just let him drag across the ground like trash. After all, it wasnโt like heโd die from it. But that was only the beginning of his punishment for daring to offend Lucas.
Meanwhile, Lucas finished up and headed to Auroraโs office in an exceptionally good mood. His expression didnโt betray a hint of what had just happened. He looked the same as alwaysโcomposed, polished, effortless. He curled a long finger and knocked gently on her office door. โCome in.โ
Her voice floated out like bamboo in the breezeโcool and crisp. Only then did Lucas push the door open. Just hearing her speak sent a rush through him. When a man truly loved someone, he loved everything about her. Lucas realized he had reached that point. Her sorrow hurt him. Her happiness lifted him. His entire mood now rose and fell with hers.
Aurora, thinking it was her assistant, looked up in confusion. Why was the person standing there without saying a word?
