Kenneth was in a meeting when the message came in. There was a time difference between where he was and back home. He had originally intended to ignore it, but another message followed right after.
“Brother, did you see my message? Just reply if you did. You don’t have to come over. I can handle things on my own.”
Wendy added, “I know I’ve been troubling you lately, but I’m an adult now. I think I can manage this myself. If you come, it won’t help much. It might even make Lukey suspicious.”
She had a feeling something had happened between Lucas and her brother lately, though she didn’t know the specifics. All she knew was that if their meeting could be avoided, it absolutely should be. Otherwise, her brother might find out what had been going on between her and Lucas.
At first, she hadn’t thought much of it. But over time, she began to realize something was off. After all, her brother and Lucas had been close friends for years.
She’d always followed behind the two of them, so if something came to light, how was she supposed to explain herself? She was fully aware of how she had been behaving in Ravenshore lately.
Wendy took a deep breath. She absolutely could not let her brother come. If he did, and the two of them got to talking, she would be the first to suffer. Just the thought of it made her nervous. Not to mention, if things blew up, there’d be no chance of her stepping outside again. She knew her brother too well.
Precisely because of that, she understood his personality–he needed to be kept abroad, far away. Besides, she now had something on Lucas.
If she played her cards right, she could get whatever she wanted all by herself. The thought made her grin so wide, her mouth was nearly splitting open.
Kenneth was already growing impatient. If Wendy hadn’t been his only sister, he wouldn’t have bothered with her at all. But if he truly ignored her, there was no way to explain it to their parents. After all these years, Kenneth knew exactly how to navigate his family. Even if he didn’t want to intervene, she was still his sister. Letting her run wild back home would just be irresponsible. He took a deep breath, resigning himself to the situation. No matter what, she was the only sibling he had.
“Fine. If you don’t want me there, I won’t go. But if anything happens, message me right away.”
Kenneth held back for a long time, but in the end, still sent the message. When Wendy saw it, she immediately let out a breath of relief.
Now that her brother was reassured, she could finally do as she pleased without restraint. If something really did come up, she could always call him for help. She quickly texted him back “Thanks, brother. I got it. If anything happens, I’ll definitely let you know.”
“Alright. You’re on your own there, but keep your head on straight. Don’t get reckless.”
