Chapter 391
Now that Aurora needed his help, Leonard knew he couldnโt shrink back. He had to step forward and face everything head-on. If he chose to hide in the background now, heโd lose respect for himself. The four of them crowded around the phone, all eyes fixed on the screenโwould Jason answer? Thankfully, he didnโt let them down. When he saw who was calling, he hesitated at first, but it didnโt take long for him to realize that Aurora was likely on the other end. And he answered. After all, this was her mother. She had every right to know what was going on.
Auroraโs eyes lit up with hope as the line connected. Her hunch had been right. Despite the mess, trust still existed between colleagues. She glanced at her assistant and gave a subtle signal to speak. Ian cleared his throat and spoke softly into the phone. โMr. Jason, Iโฆ I called you because thereโs something I need to ask.โ
โMhm. I figured.โ Jason let out a quiet sigh. Even now, this kid still couldnโt keep his nerves in check. But the moment he heard his voice, Jason already knew what it was about. โAlright, I know why youโre calling. Get to the point.โ
Auroraโs eyes sparked. It appeared that Jason had understood her intention. โSheโs next to you, isnโt she?โ Jasonโs voice came through clearly. โIf Iโm right, Miss Walton is with you right now, listening in on this call.โ
Auroraโs eyes gleamed. That was exactly what she expected from him. No point pretending anymore. โTalking to smart people is always easier,โ she said with a grin.
Jason gave a small chuckle. โOf course, I know sheโs there. Back when Miss Tessa used my phone to call, I couldnโt exactly stop her.โ
โItโs alright. I understand,โ Aurora replied calmly. Aurora didnโt hold anything against Jason for what had happened earlier. She knew how it workedโeveryone was just trying to do their jobs. But even so, a new hesitation crept into her heart.
โSoโฆ what are you thinking now?โ she asked quietly. โAre you going to help her go against me?โ
Jason shook his head and chuckled. โCome on, Miss Walton. If I was on her side, would I have let you make this call?โ
โLetโs not beat around the bush. Sheโs your mother. Thereโs no reason to hide where she is. Iโm the Chairwomanโs assistant, not anyoneโs pawn. Iโm just doing my job. Nothing more.โ
Aurora let out a quiet breath, finally reassured. She understood now exactly where Jason stood. โAlright. I appreciate it. I wonโt forget you helped me today. And I wonโt let Tessa give you a hard time over this.โ
Jason just gave a small laugh. โMiss Walton, I think youโre giving Miss Tessa too much credit,โ โI already told you that I work for the Chairwoman. If she wants to make things difficult for me, letโs see if she even has the power to pull that off.โ
Aurora paused, slightly stunned by his confidence. Sheโd clearly underestimated Jason. A moment later, she smiled. โAlright then. Send me the location. Iโll head over now. You know Iโve been worried about her since I left the company.โ
