Chapter 391

Now that Aurora needed his help, Leonard knew he couldnโ€™t shrink back. He had to step forward and face everything head-on. If he chose to hide in the background now, heโ€™d lose respect for himself. The four of them crowded around the phone, all eyes fixed on the screenโ€”would Jason answer? Thankfully, he didnโ€™t let them down. When he saw who was calling, he hesitated at first, but it didnโ€™t take long for him to realize that Aurora was likely on the other end. And he answered. After all, this was her mother. She had every right to know what was going on.

Auroraโ€™s eyes lit up with hope as the line connected. Her hunch had been right. Despite the mess, trust still existed between colleagues. She glanced at her assistant and gave a subtle signal to speak. Ian cleared his throat and spoke softly into the phone. โ€œMr. Jason, Iโ€ฆ I called you because thereโ€™s something I need to ask.โ€

โ€œMhm. I figured.โ€ Jason let out a quiet sigh. Even now, this kid still couldnโ€™t keep his nerves in check. But the moment he heard his voice, Jason already knew what it was about. โ€œAlright, I know why youโ€™re calling. Get to the point.โ€

Auroraโ€™s eyes sparked. It appeared that Jason had understood her intention. โ€œSheโ€™s next to you, isnโ€™t she?โ€ Jasonโ€™s voice came through clearly. โ€œIf Iโ€™m right, Miss Walton is with you right now, listening in on this call.โ€

Auroraโ€™s eyes gleamed. That was exactly what she expected from him. No point pretending anymore. โ€œTalking to smart people is always easier,โ€ she said with a grin.

Jason gave a small chuckle. โ€œOf course, I know sheโ€™s there. Back when Miss Tessa used my phone to call, I couldnโ€™t exactly stop her.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s alright. I understand,โ€ Aurora replied calmly. Aurora didnโ€™t hold anything against Jason for what had happened earlier. She knew how it workedโ€”everyone was just trying to do their jobs. But even so, a new hesitation crept into her heart.

โ€œSoโ€ฆ what are you thinking now?โ€ she asked quietly. โ€œAre you going to help her go against me?โ€

Jason shook his head and chuckled. โ€œCome on, Miss Walton. If I was on her side, would I have let you make this call?โ€

โ€œLetโ€™s not beat around the bush. Sheโ€™s your mother. Thereโ€™s no reason to hide where she is. Iโ€™m the Chairwomanโ€™s assistant, not anyoneโ€™s pawn. Iโ€™m just doing my job. Nothing more.โ€

Aurora let out a quiet breath, finally reassured. She understood now exactly where Jason stood. โ€œAlright. I appreciate it. I wonโ€™t forget you helped me today. And I wonโ€™t let Tessa give you a hard time over this.โ€

Jason just gave a small laugh. โ€œMiss Walton, I think youโ€™re giving Miss Tessa too much credit,โ€ โ€œI already told you that I work for the Chairwoman. If she wants to make things difficult for me, letโ€™s see if she even has the power to pull that off.โ€

Aurora paused, slightly stunned by his confidence. Sheโ€™d clearly underestimated Jason. A moment later, she smiled. โ€œAlright then. Send me the location. Iโ€™ll head over now. You know Iโ€™ve been worried about her since I left the company.โ€
