Listen to this chapter:

Her beautiful eyes slowly closed.

By the time Lucas came out of the shower, excitedly heading to bed, he found Aurora already fast asleep.

At first, Lucas thought she was just pretending, playing some sort of coupleโ€™s game with him. But as he listened to her steady, gentle breathing, he realized that she really slept. He stood there, momentarily stunned. Lowering his head, he glanced at her, then looked helplessly at Aurora lying in bed. He sighed and murmured quietly, โ€œFlu. Letโ€™s just say I owe you one!โ€

Left with no choice, he headed back to the bathroom.

The sound of running water filled the space once more. Nearly half an hour passed before Lucas finally returned. He got into bed and gently pulled Aurora into his arms, holding her comfortably as they slept.

Auroraโ€™s brows furrowed slightly. She felt a bit uncomfortable at first, but the familiar scent beside her and the secure embrace eased her. Her frown gradually softened. She found a cozy spot on her own, curled up in Lucas' arms, and drifted off to sleep.

Lucas couldnโ€™t help but feel a quiet wish in his heart. If only life could stay like thisโ€”quiet, uninterrupted, just the two of them wrapped in each otherโ€™s warmth. No noise and chaos, just this simple, steady peace. That, to him, was happiness.

The next day.

When Aurora woke up, she saw Lucas lying beside her. In that instant, she gave her forehead a light smack, feeling like she had forgotten something important last night. Her movement stirred Lucas from sleep. He lazily opened one eye to look at her, then casually reached out and pulled her back into his arms.

โ€œSleep a little more. Itโ€™s still early.โ€

His voice carried a lazy rasp, laced with a teasing undertone, as he hadnโ€™t fully woken up yet. Combined with that infuriatingly perfect face of his, Aurora nearly lost her composure. What a sin, truly a sin.

She gave Lucasโ€™ chest a gentle push. He responded with a low hum from deep in his throat and didnโ€™t budge an inch.

Aurora seemed to have discovered something amusing. She poked Lucasโ€™ abs again. His lower abdomen tensed instantly, and he grabbed the mischievous hand in one swift motion.

โ€œItโ€™s too early for this, Rora. Donโ€™t stir things up.โ€

Feeling the rising heat where their skin met, Aurora immediately understood what he meant. She quietly lay still and resigned herself to another round of morning sleep beside him.

Lucas cracked his eyes open just a sliver to look at her, a trace of regret flashing through them. She wasnโ€™t usually this obedient. With nothing left to justify further action, he simply pulled her into his arms and actually went back to sleep.

As for what they had agreed to the night beforeโ€“neither of them got around to it.

By the time Auroraโ€™s alarm went off, Lucas was already gone. She sat up, grumbling inwardly, โ€œSeriously? He pulled me back into bed and nearly made me late.โ€

Still, thinking about how she managed to thwart his plans last night, she felt a bit better. All in all, things balanced out.

When she walked into the living room, she saw breakfast neatly laid out along with a sticky note. The handwriting was bold and flamboyant, full of character.

โ€œDear, Iโ€™ve gone to work. Breakfast is ready. Just heat it up.โ€

She glanced at the dishesโ€”it was all her favorites. Who wouldโ€™ve thought Lucas could be this thoughtful? Aurora quickly reheated the food. Some of it had already gone cold.
