Chapter 459

He couldnโ€™t keep drifting like thisโ€”lost, aimless, going nowhere. It wasnโ€™t a solution. It wasnโ€™t a life.

As soon as he got back, Joseph marched straight into the company and went to find his father.

โ€œDad, I donโ€™t want to hide my identity anymore.โ€

The words barely left his mouth before Albertโ€™s blood pressure practically skyrocketed.

โ€œYou ungrateful brat. What the hell are you talking about?โ€

โ€œSo, now everythingโ€™s on your terms? Should I just hand you the keys to the company and walk out?โ€

Joseph took the verbal lashing without protest. โ€œAlright, alright. I know I messed up. Just stop yelling, old man. I get it. But you can relax this time. I swear Iโ€™ll handle things properly. I wonโ€™t mess it up again.โ€

He held up three fingers solemnly. โ€œI swear, this is the last time.โ€

Albert looked like he might pass out.

He patted his chest to calm himself, mumbling under his breath, โ€œHeโ€™s my son. My only son. I canโ€™t kill him.โ€

He was, after all, the Hunt familyโ€™s one and only heir.

โ€œSo?โ€ Albert snapped. โ€œWhat happens after you stop hiding your identity?โ€

He didnโ€™t believe for a second that Joseph had suddenly grown a brain.

Did the kid somehow figure out the board was already eyeing him as the next in line?

Joseph was silent for a moment, clearly thinking it through.

Eventually, he shook his head.

โ€œHonestly? Iโ€™m not sure yet.โ€

โ€œI just know that Iโ€™m old enough nowโ€“I should be trusted with real responsibility.โ€

He was tired of floundering. He had thought starting from the bottom would prove something to his father.

But now? He realized how naรฏve that was, especially after seeing how far Judy had come and how clearly sheโ€™d found her path.

It made him realize how little he had figured out.

Even Judy had found her direction.

And him?

He was still fumbling in the dark.

Albert looked at his son, disappointed and frustrated beyond words. It was like watching a gold mine that refused to be dug.

Albert knew exactly what kind of son he hadโ€“one who never took things seriously, who always seemed to be playing around and never accomplished much of anything.

And that was precisely why heโ€™d been so reluctant to hand over the company.

As long as he could hold on, he would.

This business was his lifeโ€™s workโ€“decades of sweat and sacrifice.

He wasnโ€™t about to watch it go up in smoke.

The thought alone made his blood boil as he looked at Josephโ€“his careless, spoiled heir. โ€œFine,โ€ Albert snapped. โ€œDo whatever you want. Just stop standing there like a statue.โ€

He couldnโ€™t help but grumble as he waved him off. โ€œYouโ€™re a grown man. Canโ€™t you think about something serious for once? All you ever think about is love and drama. The only thing that matters in the end is money. The kind you can hold in your hands.โ€

Joseph said nothing, head bowed.

Because deep down, he knew his father was right. Every word of it.

If he kept drifting like this, he wouldnโ€™t last longโ€“not in the business, not anywhere.

โ€œDad, I get it now. I know I messed up. Iโ€™m ready to follow your lead,โ€ Joseph said, lifting his head and looking his father in the eye.

โ€œIโ€™ll do what you say. Iโ€™m ready to grow up. I just want to make progress now.โ€

Albert narrowed his eyes. โ€œYou serious?โ€

He wasnโ€™t sure he believed it.

His son had never sounded so sincere.

Was this really Joseph? Did he finally grow a conscience overnight?

Joseph nodded, firm and steady. โ€œI want to learn everything about the company, as fast as I can. That way, I can take some of the weight off your shoulders.โ€
