Chapter 47
Auroraโs expression turned icy the moment she heard his words. She met Josephโs gaze head-on, her eyes sharp as blades. โJoseph, watch your mouth. My life has nothing to do with you. How I live is none of your damn business.โ
Joseph was momentarily stunned by her retort, but he quickly recovered, putting on his usual condescending act. โCapability? Aurora, what capability do you have? Youโre nothing now! Without me, youโre just a worthless nobody!โ
His words were sharp, but they didnโt faze her. She had long seen through Josephโs hypocrisy and arrogance. Once, she had thought he was her salvation, her guiding light. But in the end, he had only ever seen her as something to manipulate and control at will.
โJoseph,โ Auroraโs voice was calm as she spoke. โThree years ago, I was blind to ever like you. But now, I see clearly. You mean nothing to me. And I, Aurora Walton, am not someone you can insult however you please.โ
Something in her resolute gaze seemed to sting Joseph. His expression darkened. He stepped forward, reaching for her arm, but she swiftly dodged him.
โDonโt touch me,โ she said coldly.
โAurora, quit acting all high and mighty!โ Joseph suddenly lunged closer, his face just inches from hers. His gaze swept over her before flicking to the car behind her, a sneer forming on his lips. โThis car isnโt cheap.โ
โFound yourself a new sugar daddy? Or did you use your dirty little tricks to hook another rich man?โ
Auroraโs brows knitted slightly in disgust. A wave of revulsion rose in her chest. She took a step back, putting distance between them, and looked at him with nothing but cold contempt. โJoseph, is your mind so filthy that you see filth in everything?โ
โI earned this car with my own money. Donโt use your disgusting assumptions to judge others!โ
But Joseph acted as if he hadnโt heard a word she said, continuing to press her. โEarned it yourself? Aurora, donโt make me laugh! Youโre just a broke college studentโhow much money could you possibly make?โ
โI saw you at the hotel last time, clinging to some man. You mustโve found yourself a sugar daddy, huh?โ
Aurora had been holding back, but at that moment, she finally snapped. She clenched her fists, resisting the urge to punch him. โJoseph, say another word, and donโt blame me for not holding back!โ
Joseph flinched for a brief second, instinctively stepping back. But he quickly recovered, his arrogance returning.
โWhat? Did I hit a nerve? Aurora, donโt think I donโt know what kind of woman you are! Youโd do anything for money!โ
Aurora took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm. She knew reasoning with someone like Joseph was pointless. It would only be a waste of breath. Instead, she let out a cold laugh, her voice dripping with mockery. โWow, Joseph, you care so much about me. Still hung up on me after all this time? Did your true love fail to satisfy you? Thinking of crawling back to me now?โ
โWhat a shame. To me, youโre not even worth a damn thing.โ
Josephโs face twisted with barely restrained rage. His eyes darkened as he grabbed her wrist tightly, his grip bruising. โYou love seducing men, donโt you?โ he spat. โI never even touched you when we were together, yet I spent so much money on you. Donโt you think I deserve a little interest?โ
Before she could react, Joseph shoved her against the car, his hands yanking at her clothes.
