It didnโt matter. No matter what anyone said, Lucas was hers completely.
As for Aurora? She could go wherever she wanted.
โOrder whatever you like,โ Lucas said after sitting down, pushing the menu toward Wendy.
No matter the situation, he was still a man who upheld basic courtesy. It was second nature, ingrained in him as deeply as the instinct to use a fork at dinner.
โGreat!โ Wendy beamed. She knew that Lucas still cared about her. Otherwise, he wouldnโt have handed her the menu first. It was obvious he wanted her preferences to take priority.
Looking over the menu, she turned to the server. โDo you have any house specials youโd recommend?โ
The server, friendly and attentive, began listing the specials right away. โIf youโre into bold flavors, our signature spicy sea bass is a standoutโfreshly caught and prepped just this morning.โ
โOh, no. Something else, please. Lukey doesnโt eat spicy food,โ Wendy replied quickly, glancing sideways at Lucas as she spoke, hoping heโd notice her thoughtfulness.
But Lucas didnโt seem to catch the subtle gesture at all. He was preoccupied with his phone, scrolling or typing, clearly not paying attention.
A flicker of disappointment passed through Wendyโs eyes, and the spark in her voice dimmed. โJust bring us all your signature dishesโanything thatโs not spicy.โ
โOf course, maโam,โ the server replied politely before stepping out.
Wendy, now far less enthusiastic, took a sip of water and shifted her gaze back to Lucas once again. She licked her dry lips and tried to keep the conversation going. โLukey, what were you busy with on your trip?โ
Lucasโ hand, still holding his phone, paused mid-swipe. After a moment of silence, he replied coldly, โDonโt pry.โ
It was like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over Wendyโs head. Her excitement instantly extinguished. โStill, this is our time together. I canโt let it go to waste,โ she thought.
Just as she was racking her brain for a new topic, a knock came at the door.
โExcuse me,โ said the server politely. โWeโre here to start serving your dishes.โ
Lucas gave a small nod, watching silently as the staff entered one by one and began placing the dishes on the table. Wendy seized the moment and took a few discreet photos of Lucas, then snapped a couple more of the table, pretending to focus on the food.
Lucas noticed but didnโt say anything. He figured it was just a girl wanting to show off a nice meal on social mediaโnothing unusual.
Chapter 475
Later, while he was still distracted by his phone, Wendy quickly snapped a candid of the two of them sitting at the table. She beamed. With his sharp features and towering presence, and her soft smile beside him, the photo looked surprisingly harmonious.
She was about to start another conversation when Lucasโ phone lit up. The name โRoraโ flashed repeatedly on the screen. His eyes lit up, and he reached for it without hesitation. But before he could answer, Wendy, summoning courage from who-knew-where, grabbed the phone and hung up.
Lucasโ dark eyes immediately dimmed, fury simmering just beneath the surface.
โGive me the phone,โ he said. His voice wasnโt loud, but the heat in it made it clear. He was genuinely angry.
