Chapter 508

He didnโ€™t want to live a life under constant threats either, but there was nothing he could do. Life was already hard enough, and now things were only getting worse. On top of that, he had to cater to these people. The upper class never cared about how people like him felt. Every single one of them treated people like him as if they were at the very bottom. There was nothing they could do. They could only obey.

It was like a law of nature. Jackson let out a sigh. He could only go along with Julianโ€™s demands. Otherwise, heโ€™d lose his job too. If he couldnโ€™t do what he loved, then what difference would it make from being dead? After all these years, he had grown used to this job. But now, was he really supposed to just give it up? Of course not. That was out of the question. Jackson didnโ€™t know what else to say, but he understood one thingโ€“life had to go on. The only thing he could do to keep going was to follow orders from people like them. That was the only way he could stay in this position, continue doing what he loved, and still shine in his own way. Because of that, he had no choice but to follow the will of those above him, if he still wanted to remain here. With that thought, Jackson sighed and said nothing more. He simply waited for whoever would come next. Since Julian had come to him personally, it meant someone else was definitely coming too. It was only a matter of time. Jackson let out a slow breath, calmed himself, then sat back in his chair, pretending to focus on the data in front of him.

Before long, someone knocked on his office door. Jacksonโ€™s heart skipped a beat, and he immediately realized who it must be. He cleared his throat and said, โ€œCome in.โ€

Arnold finally pushed the door open. Upon seeing the attending physician, Jackson, he greeted him respectfully right away. โ€œDr. Watson, correct?โ€

Jackson nodded. โ€œYes. How can I help you?โ€ He had a good idea what this man was here for, but he still worried he might be mistaken. Then again, Julian had just left not long ago, and this person arrived right after. Clearly, he was the one here to follow up. There was no mistaking it.

Arnold had already asked the front desk about Auroraโ€™s condition, and now he came in with the report to find the attending doctor. โ€œDr. Watson, take a look at this.โ€ Arnold handed the papers to Jackson. โ€œThis is my young ladyโ€™s report. It says she only has a case of ordinary gastroenteritis, but she still hasnโ€™t woken up. Itโ€™s already been since last night. Normally, she should be awake by now. Whatโ€™s really going on?โ€

Jacksonโ€™s heart sank. He hadnโ€™t expected it to be just ordinary gastroenteritis, and yet she still hadnโ€™t regained consciousness. Clearly, Julian and his people had done something behind the scenes. Otherwise, there was no way she would still be unconscious at this point. Normally, she shouldโ€™ve woken up in the morning. But it was already afternoon. Still, remembering Julianโ€™s warning, Jackson had no intention of telling the truth. He put on a serious expression, took the report, and pushed up his glasses. โ€œPlease donโ€™t worry. The patient isnโ€™t in any real danger. Sheโ€™s just temporarily retreated into her own mind.โ€

โ€œWhat does that mean?โ€ Arnold looked confused. It was the first time heโ€™d ever heard such a statement.
