Chapter 520
"You're notโฆ you're not my brother. I don't want to go back. Please, I'm begging you. Don't talk to me!"
Wendy's eyes were vacant, her entire being drained of life.
She knew as long as she stayed here, she could still have a chance to see Lucas again.
But once she was dragged back overseas, that would be the end of itโno more chances, no more excuses.
And after the mess she'd made this time, she couldn't even pretend he still saw her the same way.
Whatever impression she once had in Lucas' heart, it was ruined.
The thought left her hollow. She wanted to cry, but no tears came.
She didn't even want to acknowledge Kenneth anymore.
Not only had he done nothing to help her, now he'd come to take her away.
She couldn't accept it.
She didn't know what to do.
For a moment, she considered keeping up the act, pretending she didn't know him.
But Kenneth wasn't so easily fooled.
He had seen plenty in his life, and this little charade wouldn't work on him.
Besides, this was his own sisterโhe knew her all too well.
He could tell exactly how serious or ridiculous she was being.
"Cut it out," Kenneth said, rolling his eyes.
"I don't care if you're my sisterโif you've pissed off Lucas, it's over. No one's going to be able to help you now. Either way, you're not staying in this house.
"You need to have a little self-awareness. This isn't your place. It's his. Learn to understand the difference."
Hearing those words, and seeing the finality on Kenneth's face, Wendy finally got it.
There was no turning back.
Leaving this house was no longer a question. It was a certainty.
Clearly, pretending to be confused wasn't going to get her out of this.
"Broโฆ but I really don't want to leave," she whispered, voice trembling.
"I've been thinking about this constantly. If I leave, I'll never have a chance with Lukey againโฆ"
Kenneth raised a brow, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
"Oh? Now I'm your brother again? Weren't you just pretending not to know me a minute ago?"
Wendy scratched her head awkwardly, mumbling, "I just didn't want to leave the houseโฆ
"You have to understand, as long as I'm here, there's still hope. That's a completely different concept than walking away. If I leaveโฆ then there's truly nothing left."
Kenneth stared at his sister's serious expression, a little taken aback.
At first, he hadn't thought much of it.
She was still a child in his eyesโemotional and impulsive, probably just throwing a tantrum she'd forget about in a day or two.
After all, that was how she had always been growing up.
Wendy had never stuck with anything for long.
Her passion lasted only minutes at a time.
So, he had assumed this was no different.
But now, looking at the determination glimmering in her eyes, he felt genuinely shocked.
She wasn't joking.
She meant it.
This was the first time Kenneth realized that his sister wasn't playing around.
He had always thought her feelings were shallow, just temporary infatuation.
But clearly, this went deeper than he ever imagined.
"You really like Lucas that much?"
Kenneth's gaze locked on hers, watching closely, afraid to miss even the slightest shift in her expression.
And then, with complete sincerity, Wendy nodded.
"Yes. I really do."
"You seriously like someone like Lucas that much?"
Kenneth looked at her, baffled, not quite able to wrap his head around it.
