“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to tell Mother that it was all your idea,” Tessa said, but Lucas remained confident, ignoring her.

“Trust me, I care about Aurora more than you do.”

With that, he cast a meaningful glance at Tessa.

The look made Tessa feel strangely guilty.

She shouldn’t feel this way–had Lucas figured something out?

It couldn’t be.

She had never shown anything in front of him.

She’d always maintained the image of a loving sister.

When had she slipped up?

The foreign doctor, hearing Lucas’ words, brightened.

Could it be that Lucas had agreed to his proposal?

“Mr. Lucas, you mean…”

He didn’t finish the sentence, but everyone understood.

The foreign doctor was asking if Lucas was planning to take Aurora abroad for treatment, instead of keeping her in this hospital.

Watching Lucas so fiercely defend his wife, Wendy felt a pang of bitterness.

Why wasn’t it her? Why wasn’t she the one getting this kind of attention?

She and Lucas had grown up together, yet his loyalty seemed to always be directed elsewhere.

Wendy’s eyes brimmed with tears, but she fought to keep them from spilling over.

Kenneth, noticing Wendy’s emotions, could guess what was going through her mind.

He gently patted her back in an attempt to comfort her.

It was clear now. Lucas was completely focused on Aurora.

At this point, even if the elder of the Carter family came, it seemed unlikely Lucas would change his mind.

Having known Lucas for so many years, Kenneth naturally knew what kind of person he was.

Once Lucas decided on something, even if he hit a brick wall, he would never turn back.

They should have known this by now.

Kenneth silently pointed at his phone, signaling Wendy.

Wendy understood, wiping her tears, and picked up her phone to see the message Kenneth had sent:

“Don’t be upset. I’ll introduce someone better to you later.”

“Also, right now we should be on Lucas’ side. As long as Aurora gets better, Lucas will owe us a favor.”

“For both us and our family, this is a good thing, so you shouldn’t be upset.”

Reading Kenneth’s message, Wendy paused and realized the truth of it.

How had she not thought of this before? What had she been so stubborn about?

Now that it was clear, she felt a sense of relief, a lightness she couldn’t quite explain.

Looking at Kenneth’s encouraging eyes, she nodded seriously, then sent him a cute “Got it” emoji.

Their little exchange went unnoticed by anyone else.

At that moment, only they understood the warmth between them.

By standing here today, they had already chosen their side–Lucas’ side.

And when they had confronted Tessa earlier, Kenneth had made his position clear.

These things were obvious to anyone paying attention.

Hearing the foreign doctor’s words, Lucas firmly responded, “Yes, transfer her to another hospital. This hospital is nothing but a mess. We’re not staying in a place like this.”

With that, Lucas moved to pick up Aurora and carry her to the car.
