Chapter 588
She would figure out the pros and cons soon enough.
After all, his mother-in-law was no fool, and after everything that had happened, everyone more or less understood the situation by now.
In fact, Grace immediately thought of Tessa.
But in front of Lucas, she still didnโt want to point fingers at Tessa. Tessa was her daughter in the eyes of the public. If she joined others in criticizing Tessa, then what would happen to her daughterโs dignity?
No matter what Tessa had done, she was still her daughter.
And that sense of pride and protection was something Grace still cared deeply about.
With that in mind, she steeled herself and said, โI donโt know what youโre talking about, and I donโt understand any of it.โ
Hearing this, Lucas couldnโt help but feel disappointed in Grace. He had thought she was different now. The fact that she made this call meant she must care about Aurora. But after this entire conversation, it was clear that wasnโt really the case.
In the end, she didnโt care that much about Aurora. In her heart, Tessa probably still mattered more than Aurora did. That thought alone made Lucas feel it was all so unfair to Aurora. She had poured so much effort into Walton Corporation, yet none of it was appreciated. In Graceโs eyes, she wasnโt even as important as Tessa.
But what had Tessa really done? If anyone had truly dedicated themselves to the Walton family, it was Aurora without a doubt. But even though Grace knew it in her heart, she still favored Tessa more.
Lucas truly felt it wasnโt worth it for Aurora.
โAlright then, Mom. If you really donโt understand, thereโs nothing more to say.โ
With that, Lucas ended the call. He only called her โMomโ out of respect for Aurora. If it werenโt for that, Walton Corporation was just another companyโhe could easily bring it to bankruptcy. But he couldnโt do that, simply because Aurora still held on to that home with all her heart.
No matter what, he would do everything in his power to protect that company. Especially after getting to know Aurora, he understood just how much that company meant to her. If possible, he wished she didnโt have to bear so much. She was still so young, yet she endured so much hardship, and in the end, no one even seemed to understand her pain.
Lucas sighed, feeling a deep helplessness inside. He stared at the tightly shut hospital room door, falling into silence. Where had things gone wrong? How did it come to this? Everything had been fine before. But then, like a sudden collapse, she fell ill, and it was as if she never got back up again.
Thinking about it, Lucas clenched his fists.
If Aurora ever woke up again, he swore he would treat her even better, take her for regular checkups, without her ever needing to ask. Now he finally understood that nothing mattered more than her health. At the end of the day, only by taking care of her body could he feel at ease, no matter what they faced ahead.
