He even thought about that kind of thing while talking to her, but when it actually happened, it wasn’t satisfying at all. He was useless and unimpressive–neither pleasing to the eye nor of any real value. No matter how much Judy scorned him in her heart, on the surface she still fed him sweet words.

“Alright, didn’t I already explain this to you before?” She soothed him gently. “I’m doing all this for you.”

“For me?” He didn’t get it. Wasn’t going after Aurora something Judy had always wanted? How could she say it was for his sake?

Lately, he’d been thinking about a lot of things, sometimes even questioning what the point of life was. Did people really have to work? He came from a wealthy family–so why was he still expected to try so hard? Wasn’t it enough to simply do nothing? But even if he didn’t push himself, it felt like the entire world kept pushing him forward anyway. And Judy? She was the perfect example.

She looked at his clueless face and felt a spark of frustration. Had he really forgotten how Aurora used to treat him? How could he stand there acting like he didn’t know anything? Talking to him now felt like talking to a brick wall. That thought alone made Judy’s anger flare. She didn’t even want to keep talking to him anymore. Whatever, she didn’t care anymore.

She had time to spare, and if it weren’t for how much she disliked Aurora, she wouldn’t even bother pretending with Joseph. She had money, looks, and a career–what was there to worry about? But still, the thought of letting Aurora off the hook left her bitter. She remembered perfectly well how Aurora used to treat him. There was no way she could swallow that.

Sure, she’d met Aurora through Joseph, but after that, watching how impressive Aurora was had only made her feel worse. Next to her, she looked like a clown. No matter what she did, people always thought of Aurora first, even though she was supposed to be Joseph’s white moonlight.

Everyone had assumed Aurora was the ugly duckling, when in fact she herself was the one envious of that “duckling” who turned into a swan. Especially now, seeing how far Aurora had come in her career – it made her genuinely jealous. That was when she realized a woman had to rely on herself, no matter what. The only problem was, she hadn’t had the capital in the beginning, which made Joseph the perfect stepping stone. No matter what happened, she had to put herself first. That was the most important thing–the one truth she had figured out.

“Of course, it’s for you. Walton Corporation has always been Hunt Enterprises‘ biggest rival. Moreover, isn’t this the perfect opportunity to meet your father’s expectation?”

Hearing that, something clicked in Joseph’s mind. For the first time, her words actually made sense.

“So, what do you think I should do?”

Seeing that he was finally coming around, Judy let out a quiet breath of relief. At last, he was starting to get it. After all that talk and hesitation, maybe now he could finally understand what she was trying to achieve.
