Listen to this chapter:

Now that she was here, Megan was determined to stay by Auroraโ€™s side. Sheโ€™d made up her mindโ€”she wasnโ€™t going to spend another day apart from her. At this point, she couldnโ€™t afford to waste a single moment. She needed to know how Aurora was doing, and she had no idea what was going on with Lucas. Sheโ€™d trusted him to look after Aurora, but heโ€™d failed to live up to even the bare minimum of a responsible husband. As soon as she saw him, she was going to let him have it.

Leonard watched Megan shift from excitement to frustration, finding her oddly endearing. Still, he couldnโ€™t help but be curious. Her expression kept shifting, like she was caught in some silent battle with herself.

โ€œWhatโ€™s going on with you? Youโ€™ve got a whole storm of emotions written all over your face,โ€ he couldnโ€™t help asking. He was genuinely curious what was running through her head. The whole ride, her thoughts had played out openly across her face. She was like a lively little rabbit, every emotion plain to see. The sight made Leonard quietly amused.

Megan caught his amused look and suddenly didnโ€™t know how to respond. She began to wonderโ€”should she tell Leonard about her connection with Lucas? But if she did, would he think she and Lucas were in on this together, especially since Lucas had made the decision to bring Aurora abroad without telling anyone? Things between her and Leonard had been going surprisingly well. She didnโ€™t want to ruin their growing bond with misunderstandings.

โ€œItโ€™s nothing,โ€ she said with an awkward smile. "I just tend to overthink things sometimes. My mindโ€™s around a lot. Itโ€™s no big deal. Once I see Aurora, everything will be fine.โ€

Hearing that, Leonard didnโ€™t press her any further. Since Megan clearly didnโ€™t want to talk about it, there was no reason for Leonard to push. Besides, forcing someone into an uncomfortable corner never led anywhere good. Once he thought it through, Leonard stopped dwelling on it.

โ€œYouโ€™re right. We canโ€™t forget why weโ€™re really here.โ€

The two of them flagged down a cab and headed straight for the hospital where Aurora was staying. Not far behind, Tessa and Julian quickly hailed a cab of their own, instructing the driver to follow.

The driver eyed the pair suspiciously. Something about them seemed off. Were they about to involve him in some kind of shady business? He was a law-abiding citizenโ€”he shouldnโ€™t be mixed up in things like this, right?

Seeing the driver hesitating for so long, Tessa began to grow impatient. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong with you? Why arenโ€™t you moving?โ€

Julian also shot the driver a disapproving look, making the man break into a nervous sweat. Despite his fear, he held firm to his principles. With a shaky voice, he asked, โ€œWhy are you following that car?โ€ He spoke in fluent foreign language.

Luckily, Tessa had studied the language back home and was fluent in the local tongue. She rolled her eyes internally and casually made something up. โ€œThe person in that car is my sister. Sheโ€™s trying to elope with someone, and Iโ€™ve been sent by the family to stop her.โ€

The driverโ€™s expression instantly cleared up, finally understanding the situation.
