Being shut down so bluntly by Lucas, Megan felt a deep sting in her chest. She had come all this way, only to be turned away without even getting to see her best friend. She lowered her eyes, blinking back the tears gathering in her lashes.

Seeing her like this made Leonard’s chest tighten. He couldn’t understand how anyone could be so harsh to someone like Megan. She was kind, genuine, and had traveled so far. What gave Lucas the right to treat her this way?

The more Leonard thought about it, the angrier he felt. Without another word, he stepped out from behind Megan. Startled, she quickly shook her head at him, signaling for him not to act rashly. She knew exactly what kind of temper her cousin had. But Leonard couldn’t stand the arrogance radiating off Lucas. They had all come to see Aurora – why should they be treated like intruders?

“Lucas, what the hell is your problem?”

Lucas’ eyes narrowed the moment Leonard spoke, his entire presence turning more dangerous. That violent edge in him seemed ready to snap.

“Haven’t had enough last time?”

He didn’t care about Leonard’s pride – he threw the words out plainly, right in front of Megan. Her eyes widened in shock as she turned to Leonard. He hadn’t said a word about this earlier. If she had known they’d already clashed, she never would’ve brought him along. No wonder her cousin had looked so furious. So, they already had history. Thinking about all this gave Megan a pounding headache.

Why did she always seem to stumble into the worst timing? Sometimes, she truly didn’t want to get involved at all – it was exhausting. They’d traveled all this way just to see Aurora – it should’ve been something simple and good. But the way Lucas had acted, it was as if they were there to cause trouble. The thought made Leonard even more frustrated, especially seeing that smug look on Lucas’ face. It rubbed him the wrong way.

“What exactly is your problem?” Leonard’s voice dropped, low and tense.

Even the most patient person would struggle to stay calm in front of someone as rude as Lucas. Megan felt suffocated, caught between the two of them, with a confrontation ready to explode. She rushed between them, raising her voice. “Enough! You’re in a hospital. Can you both calm down? And we’re not even in our own country! Do you really want to make a scene for others to laugh…”

She didn’t even know where the courage came from. Even though Lucas had always terrified her, she held her ground and pushed back. This time, she didn’t want to hide behind Leonard, staying quiet and helpless. She knew she had to be brave.

Lucas and Leonard exchanged a glance but said nothing. Megan could tell that her words had landed. Maybe losing her temper once in a while wasn’t such a bad thing. Otherwise, no one ever seemed to take her seriously. And as for her cousin, well, maybe he was just pitiful. Maybe all of this came from how worried he was about Aurora. If he didn’t care so much, he wouldn’t be acting like this.

Still, there were things none of them could control.
