Chapter 652
He looked a little less cold and defiant, and a little more gentle and obedient.
Everyone had noticed it.
His phone lay quietly at the side.
Whenever Lucas was resting, his phone was always on silent โ it was impossible to hear any notifications.
Ever since he started staying in this hospital room, he tried to make no noise when entering.
He didnโt want to disturb Aurora.
Even though sheโd been unconscious all this time, Lucas never treated her like she was a patient.
He always regarded her as if she were completely normal.
Now, lying beside her bed and watching as she received glucose infusions to keep her vital signs stable, how could he not feel miserable?
But right now, the only thing he could do was stay by her side.
He honestly hadnโt figured out what else he could do.
He noticed the room was getting a bit dim, so he opened the curtains and cracked the window for some fresh air.
What he didnโt realize was that this simple act gave Julian much more freedom of movement.
Lucas hadnโt even considered that.
Heโd only wanted to improve the air flow in the room.
He didnโt expect that his good intentions would lead to unintended consequences.
Just as Lucas was about to climb into bed and hold Aurora, someone knocked on the door.
He picked up his phone and finally saw all the missed calls from Grace.
But the truth was, he hadnโt blocked her.
He really had just been resting.
There was so much noise from the outside world, and frankly, he didnโt want to deal with any of it.
It was all too exhausting.
Instead of wasting time, those doctors ought to be putting their heads together and figuring out when theyโre finally going to develop that medication.
They couldnโt just let things drag on like this โ it wasnโt a solution.
Lucas could already sense that Auroraโs bodily functions were slowly deteriorating.
She used to be perfectly healthy, and now she was reduced to this state because of some baseless illness.
Honestly, even if it werenโt happening to Aurora herself, even as an outsider, Lucas couldnโt accept it.
But aside from pressuring the doctors, he really had no other options.
It was laughable.
The knocking outside grew more urgent.
Lucas didnโt return Graceโs calls.
Instead, he went to the door and opened it directly.
The moment he saw Tessa, his expression turned cold.
โYou?โ
This woman clung like a leech โ wherever he went, there she was.
Back in Ravenshore, sheโd already been acting strange.
Now sheโd even followed him here.
It was getting harder for Lucas not to be suspicious.
Tessa simply smiled and held up her phone. โIโm not the one looking for you. Mom is."
โMy dear brother-in-law, since you wonโt answer her calls, she had no choice but to ring me instead.โ
Lucas froze slightly at that.
Heโd been planning to call Grace back in a bit.
He hadnโt expected her to contact Tessa so quickly, or for Tessa to bring her phone straight to him.
Why did all of this feel so planned?
He narrowed his eyes and stared silently at Tessa, trying to figure out what she was really up to.
But before he could speak, Graceโs voice came through the phone in Tessaโs hand.
