Hearing that, Grace froze for a moment, not quite sure what he meant.

“So now you’re getting angry.”

She was nearly laughing. Her son-in-law had really grown bold, sometimes even saying things she couldn’t make sense of.

“You’re the one who took my daughter away, and now she still hasn’t woken up. Don’t you think you should be held accountable?”

Her voice rose with frustration, words coming at Lucas in a relentless barrage.

“What happened to the promises you made to me? Didn’t you say you’d take care of Aurora? And what now?”

“Even when she was still back home, didn’t you stay away the entire time?”

Lucas didn’t bother sparing her feelings anymore and threw the words right back at her.

So, what if she was Aurora’s mother?

That didn’t change the fact that during Aurora’s entire hospitalization, Grace never visited her once.

That was a truth no one could deny.

Hearing Lucas’ direct confrontation, Grace suddenly didn’t know how to respond.

And the worst part–he wasn’t wrong.

She really hadn’t visited Aurora while she was in the hospital.

That was her failure as a mother, plain and simple.

Still, no matter what, Lucas was the younger one.

Who gave him the right to lecture her like this?

The more she thought about it, the more she felt a deep discomfort rise in her chest, especially with the way Lucas spoke to her - challenging and unyielding.

Her tone sharpened. “Don’t get too full of yourself. Just wait until Aurora wakes up–you’ll see exactly what I tell her about you.

“Whatever the case, I’m still your wife’s mother, which makes me your mother-in-law. You’d better start showing some proper respect.”

Fueled by Lucas’ attitude, Grace was fuming.

The back-and-forth between them was playing out like a show, and Tessa was thoroughly enjoying every second of it.

At first, Tessa had been worried Grace might mess up the plan or accidentally give something away.

But after watching Grace talk to Lucas for so long, and all of it about Aurora, Tessa began to feel jealous.

When she had wanted to get married, Grace hadn’t asked much at all.

And now, look at her–her entire attitude toward Lucas showed exactly how she felt about Aurora.

Tessa found it laughable.

She had always believed that Grace genuinely loved her.

But now, it was clear that had been nothing but an illusion.

She had only been fooling herself all along.

There was no point in thinking about it anymore.

And it only made her treatment of Aurora seem more justified.

After all, from the moment Aurora was born, she had everything.

While she, Tessa, didn’t even get a healthy body.

How could she not resent that?

While the two of them were still on the call, Tessa pulled out a second phone and sent a message to Julian.

She told him that Lucas had been stalled, and it was time to move. After hitting send, she finally felt a sense of relief.

He had to act fast.

But over on the other side, something unexpected happened.

Aurora, lying in her hospital bed, began to stir ever so slightly. Her brows furrowed tightly, her face twisting as if in pain.

It was as if, even in her sleep, she couldn’t find peace.
