Chapter 678
Nicholas Lee pinched the bridge of his nose, already growing impatient. โThatโs not your concern. Iโll handle the rest. All you need to do is make sure those thugs donโt give up the person behind it."
โEven if they do talk, just pretend you didnโt hear it. Donโt report it to the Quinn family. Just insist it was all the thugsโ doing.โ
The chief was still hesitating when Nicholas bribed him with a figure.
In an instant, all hesitation vanished.
โConsider it done. Iโll make sure everything is handled smoothly. Not a single problem, I guarantee it.โ
Hearing that, a faint smirk appeared on Nicholasโ lips.
As expected, there was no such thing as an unsolvable problem โ only a question of the right price.
That was how the world worked, and he had long seen through it.
โAll right, thatโs settled then.โ
The chief, quick on the uptake, caught the tone and immediately responded, โOf course, Mr. Lee. You go on with your business. If anything comes up on this end, Iโll inform you right away.โ
With that, the call ended.
Nicholas didnโt care one bit about the chiefโs bootlicking tone. Because of the company and the power he had overseas, far too many people were wary of him.
Even government officials had to show him some courtesy.
He was confident about that.
So, when he made that call, he never even considered being turned down.
As long as it wasnโt anything too extreme, theyโd always be willing to play ball.
And besides, it wasnโt like he wasnโt paying.
It was an incredibly cost-effective deal.
Just thinking about it made the chief grin from ear to ear.
Even after working diligently in this position for so many years, there was no way he could have made that much money on his own.
It was only by working with people like that real prospects opened up.
That was why he had such lucrative side income every year.
Otherwise, with his measly monthly salary, how could he possibly bring home that much money?
Even his wife saw through it all.
Sometimes, she even wished her husband would take on more of these kinds of things.
That way, their household finances would look a lot more promising, and thereโd be less to worry about.
Of course, the chief knew all of this.
So as long as it wasnโt something outrageous, he was always willing to help these people out.
Besides, silencing three thugs wasnโt a big task โ it was easy enough.
Just like that, the three of them were dragged out to take the fall.
Later, even when they repeatedly claimed that they were acting under someone elseโs orders, no one paid them any attention because there was no need.
Everyone knew how things worked โ sometimes, whether a case went anywhere all depended on the chiefโs mood.
Whether you were right or wrong didnโt matter.
No one cared.
And so, the case was quietly brushed aside.
As for Megan, she hadnโt suffered any actual physical harm.
She was just shaken, scared on a psychological level.
Aside from that, there was nothing else.
The marks on her body werenโt from the thugs hitting her, but from falling to the ground in fear.
In the end, it was Aurora who stood her ground and insisted that her friend had suffered psychological trauma โ that she wasnโt thinking straight anymore.
