Lucas was a little surprised. “You’re in such a rush to discharge?”

Aurora nodded. “Yeah. There’s really nothing to do staying here. Might as well leave early. Staying here just feels like a waste of time. I keep feeling like something’s off with my body.”

Seeing how firm she was about it, Lucas didn’t press further. But suddenly, he remembered that Megan had come to town too. He’d scared her off yesterday, but knowing her, she was likely to show up again today. He knew that girl’s personality well–carefree, and never one to hold a grudge. So, Lucas was almost certain she’d be back. Given Aurora’s current condition, he still felt it would be better if she were monitored a bit longer.

But seeing how determined she was, he couldn’t bring himself to stop her directly. After thinking it over, Megan became the perfect excuse. This way, it gave them both a reason to wait and Aurora wouldn’t feel like he was trying to control her. With that thought, Lucas felt much more at ease. He shared the idea with her. “That girl Megan is probably coming by.”

“She is?” Aurora paused mid-packing, momentarily stunned. She’d been planning to rush home and check in on her. Who would’ve thought Megan was already here? In that case, she could just see Megan right here.

Lucas had to explain what happened earlier. “She wanted to come visit you, so she flew straight here. She just got off the plane and came to the hospital. I told her to pick any hotel nearby and rest first. Resting is more important. Once she’s had a good break, it’ll be easier for her to see you.”

Hearing that, Aurora felt he made a lot of sense. “Lucas, you really are thoughtful. Thank you for looking after her. Megan might be a bit clumsy, but she was sincere to the core. No matter what she faced, she always remained optimistic. She also never held grudges. That was why she had such strong emotional resilience–she never let anything weigh her down for long. She never carried problems into the next day. Because of that, Lucas believed that if he just had a proper talk with Megan, they could smooth over what happened yesterday. That way, his image in Aurora’s eyes wouldn’t be damaged. And maybe, through Megan, he could persuade Aurora to stay a few more days.

That thought alone lifted his spirits. But then, a certain man came to mind. In an instant, Lucas’ expression darkened. Even the hand hanging by his side slowly curled into a tight fist. If it weren’t for that man, none of this would’ve happened–not with just Megan. He wouldn’t have had to overthink so much. But plans never kept up with changes. That much, Lucas now understood clearly. He let out a quiet laugh. “It’s nothing. Megan’s my cousin after all–looking after her is the least I can do.”

Aurora was pleased with his response. Only then did she truly feel that Lucas was here for her and her alone. Later on, when she had the time, she’d definitely ask him properly about the past.
