Chapter 825

Thinking of that, Aurora felt a little embarrassed. She spoke up at once. โ€œMom, it was my fault. I woke up this morning, but it was right around mealtime, and then Megan came to check on me. Things got a little busy, and I just forgot to call you right away.โ€

Hearing Aurora speak so politely, Grace felt a wave of discomfort. Since when had her daughter started speaking to her like that? Did this politeness mean Aurora hadnโ€™t forgiven her yet?

Grace began to panic a little inside. She couldnโ€™t help but wonder if Megan or Lucas had said something to Aurora behind her back. She waved her hand, growing anxious, then quickly realized Aurora couldnโ€™t see that through the phone, so she hurried to speak. โ€œSilly girl, thereโ€™s no need to be so polite with your mom. If thereโ€™s something you want to tell me, go ahead. And if you donโ€™t, thatโ€™s okay too.โ€ Graceโ€™s tone made it clear โ€“ she was ready to back her daughter all the way. โ€œAnd I really donโ€™t care whether you called me sooner or not.โ€

Graceโ€™s voice softened, a gentle smile playing on her lips as she added, โ€œEvery mother just wants her child to be safe and healthy. As long as youโ€™re healthy, I can finally stop worrying.โ€

Hearing that, Aurora sat in bed, visibly stunned. Even as Grace spoke, something stirred in her heart that she couldnโ€™t quite name. After all, this wasnโ€™t the Grace she used to know. The woman from before always prioritized her own interests. No matter the situation, her personal gain had always come first. So how could she have ever cared about someone elseโ€™s well-being?

โ€œAlright, I understand. Thank you, Mom.โ€ Though she didnโ€™t fully understand, Aurora still responded politely.

But that simple reply pierced Graceโ€™s heart. How had things gotten to the point where her own daughter felt like a stranger? What was she supposed to do now? Was there really another mother like her in this world? And if there was, she mustโ€™ve been far too strict with her daughter just like Grace had been. In this moment, Grace was overwhelmed with regret. Why hadnโ€™t she treated Aurora better before? Why had she let her go through so much?

But even so, she forced herself to hold back her emotions. She knew that Aurora had just regained consciousness. If she rushed to unload everything now, wouldnโ€™t that just add to the weight her daughter was already carrying? Aurora had enough on her plate โ€“ Grace couldnโ€™t bring herself to make it worse.

โ€œAlright then, just focus on resting. Take care of your health. Nothing else matters right now, so donโ€™t overthink things.โ€

Aurora gave a soft โ€œMm.โ€ She honestly didnโ€™t know how to continue this polite exchange. She had planned to mention something about Julian and Tessa. But hearing Grace speak with such concern, she suddenly didnโ€™t know how to bring it up. Besides, she wasnโ€™t clueless โ€“ she could hear the weariness in her motherโ€™s voice. Clearly, Grace hadnโ€™t had an easy time while she was unconscious. To say she didnโ€™t feel a thing wouldnโ€™t have been honest. She only had one mother. If she couldnโ€™t show her kindness, then who else would she show it to? Whatever had happened, Grace had still given her life.
