She glanced at the person, taking a quick look and finding them somewhat familiar. If she remembered correctly, it was the one who had been shopping with Chuck. It seemed like her name was Linda. Aurora recalled the way Chuck had leered that day, and her stomach churned in disgust. She withdrew her gaze, calculating in her mind.
Was Linda planning to take revenge for Chuck? How ridiculous. Chuck was nothing but scum, yet someone actually cared about him. Then again, Aurora thought, it did make sense. The two of them were probably just using each other.
She shook her head, dismissing the thought. When the project manager arrived, Aurora pressed the Enter key one last time, saved the file to her desktop, and closed it.
โHey, Aurora, come to the office for a moment.โ
โAlright, Iโm coming now.โ
She stood up and followed the manager into the office. As soon as the door closed behind them, Linda dropped the act, glaring at the door with pure hatred. Bitch. Her resentment was impossible to hide.
So, she had hooked up with the manager? No wonder she had the power to get rid of Chuck. โUgh, she climbed up the ranks using dirty tricks, yet she had the nerve to kick Chuck out?โ
Linda waited, but as the end of the workday approached, Aurora and the manager still hadnโt come out. She grew restless. Picking up a cup, she pretended to get some coffee but subtly made her way toward Auroraโs desk. From a distance, she noticed somethingโAuroraโs computer wasnโt locked.
Her heart pounded with excitement. Aurora had shared her ideas during the meeting, but the project plan hadnโt been finalized yet. Whoever completed it first would take the creditโso why shouldnโt it be her? If she did this, the promotion and raise would be hers. Yes, and she wouldnโt even need Chuck for it! As Linda thought about it, the idea seemed more and more feasible. Greed filled her eyes, almost overflowing.
Just as she was about to give in to temptation and reach out, a round-faced colleague, Lucy, suddenly scolded her.
โLinda, what are you doing?โ
โThatโs not your desk, is it? Did you even tell Aurora what you needed?โ
Hearing the voice, the greed in Lindaโs eyes quickly faded. She turned to Lucy with a dark expression, reluctantly explaining, โI just noticed Auroraโs file was left open and thought Iโd close it for her. It would be a shame if she forgot to save it.โ
Then, she tried to turn the tables. โLucy, why are you so worked up? Have you been watching Auroraโs desk all this time? Could it be because sheโs handling the Vanguard Group project, and you want a piece of it too?โ
Lucyโs eyes widened. โI would never! Linda, how could you accuse me of that? Besides, if Aurora really secures the project, itโll be a good thing for the whole company.โ
Linda ignored her response, curling her lips into a smirk. โOh? You know your own thoughts better than anyone.โ
With that, she turned and left, leaving Lucy standing there, fuming.
When Aurora stepped out of the managerโs office, she immediately noticed Lucyโs frustrated expression. Puzzled, she asked, โWhatโs wrong? Who made you angry?โ
Seeing Aurora, Lucy felt even more wronged. โAurora, be careful of Linda! That woman is up to something!โ She then recounted everything that had just happened in detail.
