Chapter 909
โAlright, just keep monitoring her,โ the chief said with a nod, feeling somewhat reassured. He hadnโt asked for that level of detail. Everything Zack had just shared was voluntary, which meant he was taking the initiative on this matter. So clearly, he wasnโt completely blinded by Tessaโs looks.
The chief then asked about Tessaโs physical condition. The intern reported everything truthfully. โSheโs mostly fine now, just her vocal cords are hard to recover. We donโt know how things will go from here.โ
โAlright then.โ The chief stood still, feeling a twinge of regret. Heโd heard Tessa had a beautiful voice. But everything had happened so suddenly, none of them had time to react. That was how Julian had gotten his chance. But what was done was doneโthey could only do their best to make up for it now. There was no other way.
The chief didnโt bother being vague anymore. โZack, bring Tessa to the station this afternoon.โ The intern didnโt quite understand what the chief meant. โMr. Warren, what do you mean?โ Zack hadnโt caught up yet. Heโd been at the hospital so long, heโd almost forgotten what the station even looked like. Being called back so suddenly, it threw him off a little.
โExactly what I said.โ The chief didnโt hold back. โWeโve already gathered some evidence, and itโs connected to Tessa. Bring her back and get a clear statement. โShe may be injured, but sheโs still a suspect. That status shouldnโt be forgotten.โ Zack nodded, understanding exactly what the chief meant. And he was secretly pleasedโhe wouldnโt have to stay at the hospital anymore. He was more than tired of the constant smell of disinfectant. Heโd wanted out of there for a while.
โAlright, Iโll have Tessa pack up. Donโt worry, Mr. Warren.โ The chief was pleased to hear that. โGood, then Iโll wait for your update.โ Zack responded earnestly, โUnderstood.โ After they hung up, he was still smiling. Heโd thought this day would take much longer to arrive. But it had come sooner than expected. He really should always keep a positive outlook on life.
Though, he wasnโt sure how Tessa would react. Zack hesitated for a second, then shook his head and relaxed. It didnโt matter. Whether she liked it or not, this wasnโt up to her. Right now, she was still a suspect. Everything else was irrelevant.
With that in mind, Zack headed back inside. The moment he walked in, Tessa looked up and met his eyes. Without hesitating, Zack repeated what the chief had said. โWeโre heading back to the station. Go ahead and pack your things.โ
Tessa was caught off guard. She remained on the bed, not moving right away. Her gaze shimmered slightly as she looked at Zack. โOfficerโฆ is there a reason Iโm being brought back now?โ Tessa still clung to the mindset of โdonโt move unless the other side moves.โ In such a powerless position, she couldnโt afford to act rashly.
