If she and Julian had ended up spending the night in the same cell, wouldn’t that have been the same as walking straight into danger? She might not even have known when she died.

With the way Julian looked now, Tessa had a pretty good idea of what was going on. Julian, at the core, was someone with a dark and twisted heart. As for whether he was truly insane or just putting on an act, she still wasn’t entirely sure. It would be better to keep observing and figure it out later.

Tessa sat cross-legged on the bed, thinking hard about the path ahead. She couldn’t let herself drift aimlessly like this. That was never her style. After everything that had happened, she should have known exactly what she wanted by now. But without someone to guide her, she felt she might easily stray off course.

Just like the books said–choosing the right method mattered far more than how fast or far one walked. Some people spent their whole lives striving, yet still never reached what others were born capable of.

Tessa scoffed under her breath. No matter what, Aurora and Lucas were etched into her bones now–people she would never forget. This life of hers still had something worth fighting for. As long as she got through this, she would not spare everyone responsible for putting her behind bars. The world wasn’t that big. If she really wanted to find someone, it wouldn’t be hard, especially when those people were as prominent and recognizable as they were.

Aurora stood outside, instinctively straightening her clothes and checking her makeup. She’d never cared much about these things before. But today marked her first time seeing her family again after a full month–appearance did matter. Besides, she still had a large number of people supporting her online. So, Aurora knew she had to pay attention to her image.

Once Lucas realized this, he couldn’t help but feel both amused and helpless. He had never seen this side of her before, nor had he seen her smile so brightly. Apparently, work–or more precisely, doing something she loved–brought her real joy and renewed energy. That was something Lucas genuinely admired about her.

Whatever Aurora set her sights on, whatever she wanted to achieve, she would always find a way to make it happen. And most importantly, she always did it through legitimate means.

Once she was finished tidying up, Aurora turned to him with a smi[le]. “Well? Do I look alright?” She was still a little nervous, fidgeting with her hair or adjusting her collar. She looked noticeably different from her usual self.

Lucas couldn’t help but laugh softly, his eyes lit up with affection. “Don’t worry, Rora. You look beautiful like this. Besides, you’re just going into your own company–it’s basically like going home. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”

His words brought a sense of ease to Aurora’s heart. She wasn’t feeling as tense as before. And she knew Lucas was right. This was her family’s company. There really wasn’t anything so terrifying about it.

Aurora frowned slightly and said to Lucas, a bit uneasy, “It’s just… I haven’t seen them in so long.”
