Chapter 940
Someone chuckled. โWell, of course, our resident workaholic is back.โ
Everyone knew Aurora had always been obsessed with closing deals.
Those major projects from before? Most of them had been landed single-handedly by her. But now, many of those deals had stalled or been shelved. It was a real shame, honestly. And with more active projects, that meant higher bonuses for everyone. Who wouldnโt want a win-win?
These conversations didnโt reach Aurora. She continued on her own, heading straight into her office. The moment she stepped in, her eyes grew misty.
Everything was just as she rememberedโnothing was dusty, the floors spotless, and even the windows sparkled. One glance was enough to tell that this room had been cleaned regularly. And as for who had done the cleaning, she didnโt even need to guess. It had to be that silly assistant of hers. He really was a fool. An entire month had passed, yet instead of doing something more productive, heโd been cleaning a room, not even knowing when, or if, its owner would return.
Lucas immediately saw through what Aurora was thinking and couldnโt help but laugh. โAlright, donโt get too emotional. This just shows that the people around you genuinely respect and care about you.โ His grip on her hand tightened a little. โAnd it also proves what a great leader you are. Thatโs why everyone stays loyal.โ
Auroraโs tears were successfully stopped by his words. She suddenly burst into a soft laugh, rubbing her nose. โI wasnโt crying, okay? I was justโฆ touched. I donโt know whatโs going on. Lately, Iโve been way more emotional than usual.โ
Lucas comforted her, โYes, yes, of course. Women being a little emotional isnโt a bad thing; itโs a gift youโre naturally born with. If it still worries you, once youโre done here, Iโll go with you to get it checked out.โ
Aurora nodded. Lucas always thought of everything. At first, she didnโt plan on getting checked, but then again, this shift in emotion was starting to affect her work.
โAlright, weโll go after Iโm finished here.โ Aurora sat back down in her office chair, her eyes resting on the familiar, spotless desk. A quiet sense of fulfillment rose in her chest.
This was where she had worked before. And now, she could once again pursue her dreams here. What Tessa had taken from her, she would reclaim one piece at a time. Did that woman really think that just because Aurora had stayed silent, it meant none of it mattered? As if that were possible. Prison was only the appetizerโthe real show was just beginning.
Aurora sat in her chair, taking a deep breath, her expression shifting continuously. Lucas, perceptive as always, didnโt disturb her.
A good leader knew how to control their expressions and emotions. If the opposition ever caught wind of your inner turmoil, theyโd seize on it without hesitation. Mastering her emotionsโthat was the first lesson of the real work.
Once Aurora had adjusted herself, she looked at Lucas and smiled. โLukey, Iโm going to call my assistant in.โ
Lucas gave a slight nod. โAlright. I just hope the companyโs still doing well and nothing majorโs changed.โ
