Chapter 966
Albert didnโt believe a word the chief said. Julian had just called him not long ago. It was clear that he wanted to get out of prison. Back then, heโd still been completely normal. It hadnโt even been that long. How could he have lost his mind so suddenly? Albert still couldnโt accept it.
But the chief tried to reason with him. โMr. Hayes, this is the truth. Weโre just as troubled to see things turn out this way, but the facts are right in front of us. I hope you can come to terms with it.โ
Grace, on the other hand, couldnโt stay quiet. โYou wonโt let us in, yet you locked my daughter up with him?โ Her voice sharpened. โHow could you do that? What if Julian hurts her?โ Her panic was obvious. She was truly frightened. All this time, sheโd assumed Tessa was simply recovering her voice in the hospital. She never imagined her daughter was going through something like this. If sheโd known earlier, she wouldโve taken her home right away. That way, she couldโve spared her at least some of this suffering.
But the chief offered her a reassuring look. โMadam Williamson, thereโs no need to worry. Weโve already confirmed that Julian may act out toward others, but when it comes to Tessa, heโs completely docile. Maybe itโs because he still remembers she was once his fiancรฉe.โ
Grace took several deep breaths before she managed to calm herself down. That actually made some sense. As long as he hadnโt hurt her daughter, that was all that mattered. Her daughter had already suffered enough because of Julianโshe couldnโt take any more pain.
โThen why did you call us here?โ Grace just wanted to get to the point. She had no patience left for meaningless chatter.
Albertโs gaze, however, remained fixed on Julian, whose face was hidden behind his hair. He still couldnโt believe it. Not long ago, Julian had looked sharp, composed, even handsome. How could things have changed so fastโฆ Albert clenched his fists. He glanced at Tessa sitting beside Julian. Though she looked a little disheveled, compared to Julian, she was doing far better. At least her mental state was still intact.
After a long silence, Albert finally spoke. โWhy donโt you just let us in? Watching like this through the glass feels too distant.โ
Grace froze. This old man had acted like he didnโt care when he arrived. But now? Seeing his son like that, clearly, he still cared.
Just as the chief was about to decline, Grace sneered and said, โWhat, now you know fear and worry? Let me ask youโwhat about my daughter?โ
Albert frowned, gritting his teeth at her attitude. โWhatโs that supposed to mean?โ He pointed inside. โBefore you bring up your daughter, why donโt you take a look at my son? How do you have the nerve to talk to me about your daughter?โ
Tessa raised an eyebrow from inside the room but didnโt say anything. After all, the evidence was solid. Julianโs conviction was practically guaranteed. So, she wasnโt worried at all. All she wanted was for her mom to get her out of here fast.
