Jason lit up insideโwho wouldโve thought that stopping a madwoman could earn him a raise? If all good deeds came with rewards like this, he wouldnโt mind a few more. But right now, the most pressing issue was still Julian.
โMadam Grace, are we really just going to let this go? The Hayes familyโs attitude was far too much.โ He spoke from the driverโs seat, his tone full of righteous anger. He truly couldnโt stand that family. They were clearly in the wrong, and yet that lunatic Carol acted as if they were the ones being wronged. Honestly, they had no shame.
Grace glanced calmly at him, noting how genuinely upset he was. In the end, she offered a reassuring reply. โEnough. Donโt think too much about it. Just focus on driving. As for what happens next, Iโll wait for that old man from the Hayes family to give me a proper explanation.โ A sharp glint flashed in her eyes. She was determined to see what his next move would be. His son was already in that state, and he still refused to let go. It had to be saidโhis stubbornness was impressive. And his wife? Completely irrational. Grace saw it all clearly. If that old man kept letting things spiral out of control, it wouldnโt end well for anyone in that family. Eventually, it would lead to disaster.
Tessa leaned gently against Graceโs shoulder and softly said not to worry too much about herโthat her health mattered more. Feeling the weight on her shoulder, Graceโs heart warmed. With such a thoughtful daughter, what more could she possibly ask for? Grace patted Tessaโs hand. โSweetheart, donโt be afraid. As long as Iโm here, I wonโt let anyone from the Hayes family bully you. Every single one of themโtheyโre not getting away with it.โ
Tessa nodded, touched, her voice slightly choked. โThank you, Mom. With you by my side, I always feel at ease. Youโre so good to me.โ
โOf course I am. Youโre my daughter. If Iโm not good to you, who else would I be good to?โ
Grace sighed. โYou two are both my precious girlsโthe people I love most in this world. I really do hope the two of you can get along and stay close. But ifโฆโ She didnโt finish the sentence, knowing Tessa would understand what she meant.
Up front, Jason kept driving with a clear understanding of everything. He knew exactly what the chairwoman was implying. There had definitely been tension between the two. Back when Grace was hospitalized, heโd already sensed it. Tessa was no easy character. Only Grace still saw her as a treasure. But this time, there did seem to be a shift in her personality. Still, Jason had his doubts. Was it real, or was she just putting on a show? If it was an act, then he had to admit that her patience was impressive. Deep down, though, Jason genuinely hoped that Tessa and Aurora could live in peace. That way, Grace wouldnโt have to carry so much stress. And everyone else could get along better too. There would be plenty of time to cross paths in the futureโso why waste energy clashing over something so temporary?
Jason dutifully drove the two of them home.
