Chapter 106
Ever since Jake saved Thea, he had been intentionally getting closer to her. He even arranged for their seats to be together during meetings. Thea was increasingly annoyed by his behavior but didn't want to cause a scene. If only Madelyn hadn't been dismissed. If Madelyn were still around, she would likely have created a scene at the company, crying and stirring up trouble with Jake, which would have diverted his attention from Stephanie.
"Thea," a voice interrupted Thea's thoughts as Jake handed her a box. "You used to love jewelry from this brand. I saw they released a new collection and thought you'd like it. I bought it for you. Try it on." Thea glanced at the box but didn't take it. She gave a faint smile. "Sorry, I don't like it anymore."
Jake's expression stiffened.
Just then, the meeting ended, and people began leaving. Despite the awkwardness, Jake remained calm and continued in a pleasant tone, "You might not like it now, but try it anyway. Maybe you'll change your mind. I picked the style and color you used to love. It can't be wrong."
Some onlookers decided to stir the pot. "Ms. Rowland, Mr. Hendrix has gone this far. Don't be stubborn!"
"Yeah, exactly! Jake definitely won't make the same mistake again," another chimed in.
Hearing this, Thea picked up the jewelry box. With Jake's hopeful gaze on her, she calmly threw it into a nearby trash bin. "Do you understand now? Even if you force something on me, I'll throw it away. You should probably give this to Madelyn." Jake's face froze.
He looked at Thea, clearly hurt. "Do you really want things to be this distant between us?"
Without turning back, Thea walked away. Jake's gaze lingered on her.
