Chapter 112

Madelyn lowered her head. "Miss Rowland, what would you like? I'll get it for you."

Seeing Madelyn's humility and obedience, and her initiative to please Thea, Simone was even more pleased. "That's excellent. Our Hendrix family can keep you. The only requirement is obedience. Remember, you don't deserve to be in the Hendrix family based on your status. My allowing you to stay is a gift." Thea thought, Only Simone could utter such feudal pronouncements.

However, Madelyn was very cooperative, showering Simone with compliments and almost making her forget Madelyn's lowly status. Seeing this, Thea couldn't sit still. She took out her phone and glanced at it several times.

Simone noticed from the corner of her eye and frowned disapprovingly. The Hendrix family had strict rules, but Jepson enforced them unnecessarily. For example, excessive chatter during meals and phone use were forbidden—rules Thea had experienced when she first arrived with Jake. At that time, she'd been obedient. However, she couldn't be bothered to care about the Hendrix family's rules now, and she was certain Simone wouldn't reprimand her for this. Thea took a deep breath, forced a smile, and said, "Thea, you should focus on your meal." Simone merely glanced perfunctorily at Thea, who continued using her phone. "I understand," Thea replied, clicking the refresh button repeatedly, looking for news about Emmalie's lake performance. Corey was efficient; news of the incident had spread, though few initially paid attention. Thea, however, knew Emmalie's personality—arrogant and prone to concealing problems, likely attempting damage control.

Unexpectedly, whoever was behind this was anticipating that reaction, making it seem like Emmalie was guilty, frantically trying to suppress the trending topics. Coupled with her silence, even her previously unwavering fans were confused.

"It can't be fake, right? Why doesn't she clarify?" "Don't talk nonsense! How could Emmalie's performance be fake? Someone's clearly trying to sabotage her." "If it's not fake, she could easily release evidence. The silence is the strangest part."

Looking at the posts and comments, Thea knew Emmalie and Max would be occupied and wouldn't worry about her. Feeling better, she stood and said, "I'm full," preparing to leave. Simone's expression darkened. Madelyn, noticing this, stood to intercept Thea.

"Miss Rowland, did my presence affect your appetite?" Madelyn asked gently, her eyes filled with innocence. "If so, I won't join you at the dining table again."

Thea was unmoved. "You only need to please the Hendrix family. There's no need to be so humble with me. I can't decide your fate. Don't waste your efforts on me." Madelyn secretly gritted her teeth but persisted. "You misunderstand. I saw you looked upset and thought it was because of me. Now that we're all together, we're family. I hope we can be more harmonious." Thea sneered. "Family? Only you say so. You need to ask Mrs. Hendrix. You should know why I can't stand you here. Are you trying to disgust me with this pitiful act?" Madelyn shook her head fearfully, looking even more pitiful. Simone disliked Madelyn's performance and considered it despicable. Embarrassed, her tone grew colder. "Madelyn, have you forgotten the rules?" Madelyn's expression changed. Tears welled in her eyes as she sat down. Jake, his heart aching, pulled her close, expressing his displeasure. "Madelyn was kind. Thea's the one breaking the rules. Mom, why blame Madelyn?" Simone felt a surge of helplessness regarding her son's naiveté, but controlled her anger. "Let's eat. Don't discuss this."

Meanwhile, in Emmalie's dressing room, she read negative comments, her beautiful face contorting with rage. A dark, vicious aura filled the room. Her agent cautiously asked, "Miss Rowland, should we contact Mr. Rowland to resolve this?" Emmalie threw her phone down, snorting. "Why contact Max? It's fake. Clarifying means admitting guilt." Her agent groaned. "Miss Rowland, proving your innocence requires a public statement. Your fans are fighting for you. Remaining silent will break their hearts." Emmalie was frustrated. "Why should I clarify something I didn't do? My fans should believe me. Why should I consider their feelings? I won't clarify. Don't even think about it." Her agent felt a headache coming on.

The agent, obediently silent at Emmalie's darkening expression, regretted her career choice. She'd struggled to work beside Emmalie after graduation, believing the Rowland family's favor and Emmalie's apparent competence promised a bright future. Yet, Emmalie's true personality was far from the gentle image presented to the world. Emmalie yawned, eyes rolling. "I'm in a bad mood. Arrange something tonight. I need to unwind." Her agent was aghast. Even now, Emmalie wanted to go to a bar. The agent tried to dissuade her. "Let's wait. Things are heated. Many eyes are on you. Keep a low profile." Emmalie, increasingly impatient, threw things onto the floor in a rage.
