Chapter 131

Seeing Thea speechless, Chad felt emboldened. He raised his voice. "Miss Rowland, what's going on? Don't you know what happened, as the person involved? Even if you want to accuse me, you should at least fabricate a believable reason, right?" April glared at him coldly. "This isn't your place to speak. Shut up!" Chad shut his mouth obediently.

Seeing this, Thea took a deep breath and looked at Corey. She said, "Mr. Sandy, someone entered my room tonight with a knife. You can have someone check my window if you don't believe me. It was opened from the inside. His fingerprints are still on it, or check all the hiding places in my room." She continued, "At the time, I saw that the person was indeed Chad, but I don't know why there were no wounds on his face."

Corey frowned, looking back and forth between Thea and Chad. Chad seemed to heave a sigh of relief and raised his eyebrows. "So Miss Rowland didn't see clearly at all. Yes, I have some conflicts with you, but I wouldn't do something like this. You would have wrongly accused me if it weren't for Mr. Sandy today. I don't know what you're implying."

Thea clenched her fists. Although furious, she was helpless, wondering why there was no wound on Chad's face.

"Mr. Sandy, you can check the people around him. You invited me here to participate in the competition; if anything goes wrong, it's naturally your responsibility. Your subordinates acted on their own accord. Are you going to let them do whatever they want?" Thea asked.

Corey took Thea's advice, looking at Chad with an even colder gaze. "I'll give you another chance. Do you have anything to do with what happened tonight?"

A hint of panic flashed across Chad's eyes. Then, he said firmly, "I don't know what happened. What happened tonight has nothing to do with me."

Having heard this, Thea knew he had covered his tracks perfectly. Corey seemed to heave a sigh of relief, looking at Thea with a faint smile. He said, "Miss Rowland, my people are indeed a little unruly, but they're not bold enough to disobey me. I think what happened tonight was just a misunderstanding. Also, I value my rest very much. Please don't disturb me for such things in the future. If I don't rest well, I'll have a bad temper."

Seeing the coldness in Corey's eyes, Thea knew he wasn't lying. April was still indignant. "But Corey, can we just ignore what happened to Miss Rowland? Who's responsible for her safety?"

Corey said indifferently, "In a place like this, it's normal for all sorts of people to gather. The person who did it might not be one of my people. I'll get someone to protect her well so that such a situation won't happen again. Alright, that's all for today. Disperse."

Apart from anger and unwillingness, Thea was more puzzled. She sensed Chad's motive wasn't simple, or perhaps someone was instigating him. She wondered, "Who is it? Corey?" However, Thea felt there was no need for Corey to do it. Although dangerous, he was arrogant and powerful; if he couldn't stand someone, he would act directly. There was no need for subterfuge.

Returning to the corridor, Thea was still frowning. She felt something else would happen. April walked over and patted her shoulder, her face full of guilt. "I wanted to help you, but I didn't expect you to be misunderstood. I'm sorry."

Thea shook her head. "That was my problem. The situation was too urgent, so I didn't see his face clearly. I thought it was him. Although he looks innocent, something feels wrong. But don't worry, I'll protect myself." With that, she returned to her room.

Unexpectedly, Chad was waiting for her at the door.

"Miss Rowland, although you didn't find a chance to wrongly accuse me, Mr. Sandy is a good person. He still asked me to apologize to you. Also, I want to make it clear: the past is the past. We still have to get along in the future," said Chad. He smiled slightly, his eyes surging with coldness and hostility.

Thea subconsciously took a few steps back. Her tone was cold as she said, "There's nothing to apologize for or explain. After all, my cooperation with Mr. Sandy is only temporary. Even if you have a problem with me, you don't have to do it here."

Unexpectedly, Chad admitted it directly this time. "But if I don't do it here, I won't have a chance."

"If you want to blame someone, blame yourself. As a girl, why did you come here instead of staying at home? What does it mean to shine in the racing arena? Do you want to prove that you're very outstanding, or do you want to attract someone's attention?"

The more Chad spoke, the more outrageous he became. His gaze grew increasingly dangerous. That disgusting and sticky feeling returned.

Thea was puzzled. She looked at him strangely. "What nonsense are you talking about? What do my thoughts have to do with you? Which law now stipulates that women can't go to the racing arena?"

Chad found no words to retort. He narrowed his eyes and began to threaten her. "Thea, I'm warning you for the last time. It's not too late for you to back out now. Don't lose your life when the time comes. I want to see if you still have the guts to stay."

Hearing that, Thea didn't say anything and sneered. Suddenly, a knife appeared in her hand, and she quickly stabbed it toward Chad's heart. Chad was so frightened that his pupils constricted. He hurriedly retreated and bumped into the railing of the corridor. When the knife reached his heart, he realized it was a fake.

Thea was in a much better mood seeing him sweating profusely from fear. She raised her eyebrows at him, her eyes cold. "Then try me. I'm not someone to be trifled with."

After that, she closed the door. The first thing she did was search the room. After confirming that no one was around, she prepared to sleep. She had to recuperate; after all, who knew what would happen next?

As soon as she lay down, her phone vibrated. It was a call from Nicolas. After the call connected, there was silence on the other end. So, Thea asked, "Nicolas, what's the matter?"

"Where are you now?" Nicolas asked.

Thea lied without changing her expression. "I'm at a friend's house. I'll go out with her for a few days and won't be home for the following days."

Nicolas chuckled. "Do you think my matter is troublesome and you don't want to be involved, so you're running away?"

Thea was honest. "Nicolas, you can only resolve this problem yourself. Also, I think you can resolve it too. Why do you need me to waste my effort?"
