Chapter 252

Jake, less composed than Jepson, shouted, "Why does everything belong to you, Nicolas? Even the woman I love most was taken from me and became your wife! Aren't you ashamed?" Nicolas, deep in thought, didn't understand Thea's past affection for Jake.

"Taken?" Nicolas's cold voice, like a heavy weight on Jake's shoulders, made it hard for him to breathe. "Jake, should I detail your actions toward Thea? How dare you accuse me of stealing her?" While calming Stefan, Nicolas curled his lip in a mocking smile.

Jake, speechless and crimson-faced, could only retort, "Regardless, I met Thea first!"

"That's far from the truth," Nicolas countered, recalling Thea's care for him abroad. Her face, imprinted on his memory, had never faded. He had met Thea before Jake. Jake's relationship with Thea had been a mistake from the start. Nicolas dismissed Jake, saying, "If I were you, I wouldn't mention Thea; you're unworthy."

Darwin immediately brought in men in black uniforms—Nicolas's long-trained personnel. They bound Jake and Jepson's hands behind their backs.

Indignant, Jepson protested, "Nicolas, I'm your older brother! Is this how you treat me? Your reputation will be ruined!"

Nicolas sneered. He'd never cared about reputation and had no time for Jepson and Jake. Knowing Thea had returned to the Rowland family and would face a difficult battle, he resolved to protect her.

He accused Jepson, "You attacked Father and angered him. He never expected to adopt an ingrate." Jepson, disbelieving, ceased struggling.

Stefan, nearly unconscious, awoke, pleading, "Nicolas, stop." This was the Hendrix family's biggest secret, one Stefan had intended to take to his grave. Despite raising Jepson, he couldn't deny his feelings for him. Even deeply disappointed, Stefan still held hope for Jepson. "Nicolas..."

Stefan's struggle made Nicolas hesitate. Jepson, unable to bear it, cried, "Why didn't you tell me? What have you hidden? I'm your biological son, right?"

He broke free from his restraints, lunging toward Stefan. "Tell me, am I?" Nicolas intercepted him.

Jepson, receiving no answer, grasped the truth. Raised in the Hendrix family by Stefan's wife, they'd never been close. He'd always felt distant from his mother. As he grew older, his dissimilar appearance to his parents sparked questions, but he hesitated to suspect his parentage.

"To seize the Hendrix family assets, you framed your brother! Are you shameless?" Jepson accused.

"Is there a need?" Nicolas replied. "Father favored you, unwilling to reveal the truth, but you should know. Whether you're family or not, he treated you well." The branch company given to Jepson and Jake, though small, was profitable; a comfortable life awaited them if they were content. However, Nicolas and Stefan had underestimated their ambition.

"Dad, is what Nicolas said true?" Jepson demanded, his ambition replaced by despair and trembling. His Hendrix family identity, his greatest pride, was a lie. "No wonder you never considered giving me the Hendrix family assets," he realized.

Stefan shook his head. "From the day I adopted you, I treated you as my own son. If you had the ability, I wouldn't have been stingy." But Jepson had never shown much talent; Nicolas surpassed him at seventeen. Stefan's quiet words felt like a death sentence.

"Who are my biological parents?" Jepson finally felt the sting of loneliness.

Even Jake wept. "Grandpa, since childhood, everyone said I resembled you. How could my father be adopted? Nicolas must be mistaken, right?" They refused to accept the truth.

Stefan, unable to hide it any longer, sighed. "Your father was my cousin, my best friend. He sacrificed himself to save me. I adopted you, publicly claiming you as my illegitimate son. Nicolas's mother, unhappy, suffered severe postpartum depression." Nicolas was raised without a mother.

Nicolas, hearing this for the first time, was shocked. His mother's death was connected to Jepson. His eyes trembled, his thoughts turning to Oliver and Thea. My mother couldn't endure the pain after giving birth to me. Thea even lost a child! His heart ached. "Darwin, protect my father."

He longed to reach Thea, to explain. He couldn't comprehend her survival through such torment. While he acknowledged his duty to Vergil's son, his focus remained on his wife, Thea.
