Ethan didn't respond, frowning hesitantly. Joyce pouted, urging him. "Dad, come on, say yes! Thea is an incredible partner; you won't regret it. Don't you even trust me?"

Ethan smiled wryly, then softened. "Let's move this somewhere else and talk it over."

Thea's eyes lit up. She flashed a bright smile at Nicolas and winked, lowering her voice. "Don't worry, Mr. Hendrix. I'll make sure Ethan agrees this time." Nicolas's lips lifted slightly.

The negotiation went smoothly. Thea had quick, well-prepared answers to Ethan's questions and risk mitigation plans for potential issues. Ethan was very impressed. He said, "Mr. Hendrix, I admit I judged too quickly based on appearances and listened to nonsense from others. I apologize. Ms. Rowland is outstanding. I hope we can work together again." With the deal between the Virtuex Group and Aurelia University finalized, Thea breathed a sigh of relief.

"You handled this well," Nicolas said flatly.

Thea was genuinely happy; Nicolas rarely praised anyone. She looked at him expectantly. "Mr. Hendrix, does this mean a bonus?"

Nicolas raised an eyebrow. "Short on cash?"

Thea stood firm. "Who doesn't want money?"

Thea hadn't taken money from the Rowland family since she was eighteen. She'd lived off her salary. Lately, she'd realized she wanted to be a boss, not an employee, to avoid being controlled.

"Three percent commission," Nicolas said.

Thea grinned. "Honestly, Mr. Hendrix, you're the most considerate boss I've ever had. A truly kind-hearted entrepreneur." Nicolas chuckled softly but didn't reply.

Meanwhile, Joyce, in the passenger seat, asked, "Dad, you're not one to judge by appearances. Why did you refuse the partnership after one glance at Thea?"

Ethan sighed. "Someone told me about her actions at the Rowland family and Avon Ventures. Partnering with her seemed risky."

Joyce chuckled. "Looks like many dislike her. But she's not who they say she is."

Ethan nodded. "I know. I didn't understand her better. Almost made a mistake."

Ethan's phone buzzed. His assistant asked if they should address the PR situation, given Aurelia University's involvement. Considering Aurelia's recent student growth (largely thanks to Emmalie), and the upcoming SATs, any scandal involving Emmalie could be costly.

Joyce laughed coldly. "Someone who backstabs her sister—how decent can she be? She's a ticking time bomb." Ethan said seriously, "Tell Emmalie's team she's no longer involved with Aurelia University." The assistant, surprised, agreed.

The Virtuex Group celebrated Thea's success. Thea, exhausted, wasn't keen on attending, but their enthusiasm made it hard to refuse. Nicolas didn't attend. Thea dressed simply and went alone. After dinner, the group moved to a bar.

As Thea considered leaving early, Liam sat beside her. He looked unusually well-groomed—leather jacket, slicked-back hair, even makeup. However, after being around Nicolas, Liam's charms paled in comparison to even Jake's. Thea thought he was simply showing off.

Liam gazed at her intently. "Thea, you've worked hard. Stay in Bangolware a few days. I know great spots. I can show you around."

Thea smiled faintly. "Thanks, but no need. We're returning to Avon Ventures tomorrow. Much to do."

Liam frowned. "Why the rush? You deserve a break. Is it Mr. Hendrix's idea?"

Thea picked up her phone. "If it's that important, he can speak to him. I'd love an extra week off."

Liam laughed awkwardly, backing down. He persisted. "How about tonight? The east side beach has amazing night views. You'd regret missing it."

"I'll check it out sometime," Thea replied vaguely, preparing to leave.

Before she could, Liam put an arm around her waist.

"What the hell are you doing?" Thea exclaimed, feeling weak and her skin crawl. Liam grinned. Someone nearby looked over. "What's up with her?"

Liam blocked their view. "She's not feeling well. I'll take her to rest."

The person's expression became knowing. "Oh, Liam, are you and Thea an item?"

"Sounds like something's going on!"

Everyone's attention turned to them. Seeing Thea almost limp in Liam's arms, they assumed the worst. Thea's face was flushed. She couldn't resist as Liam held her tightly. She knew she'd been drugged. Liam, how could you? she thought.

Liam ignored the group and half-dragged Thea to his car. The heat intensified. Thea clenched her teeth. Glaring at Liam, she weakly threatened, "If you touch me, you'll regret it."

Liam sneered, gripping her chin. "Scared? My father's a key figure at Virtuex, and he's going to headquarters next month. You're just a woman who slept her way to the top. Even with Mr. Hendrix, you're a toy. He'll choose my father's power over you."
