Chapter 119

Chase took a step back, utterly stunned. "How? How is this possible?"

Heather's voice startled him back to reality. "Mr. Reyes? Why do you look so shocked?"

His lips trembled. "Heather, has Ann talked to Amanda lately?"

Heather shook her head. "Ann went through something terrible. She was taken to an awful place, but even though we were lucky to get her back, her mind isn't right. Since she's been home, we've been helping her through therapy. She hasn't had time to contact Ms. Kennedy."

Chase's brow furrowed. "Has she mentioned Amanda at all?"

"Not a word. She mostly begs people not to touch her."

"Then why did she say those things last night?"

"Mr. Reyes, I'm so sorry. The doctor said she has severe trauma. You can't take her words literally. Don't worry, Amanda will be fine. My daughter didn't mean to curse her."

"So she hasn't said anything like that at home?"

Heather shook her head. "No, last night, on the way home, she kept muttering about snowโ€”saying things about snow and death."

A doctor emerged. "Ann's family?"

"Doctor, I'm Ann's mother. How is she?"

"The situation is grim. She has organ damage and multiple fractures. We're doing everything we can, but you need to be prepared. There's only a ten percent chance the surgery will be successful. Here are the consent forms."

Heather nearly fainted, but Chase caught her. "Heather, you need to stay strong."

I couldn't remain by idly and rushed into the operating room. Doctors from every department were working frantically to save Ann.

Ann lay unconscious, her small face pale. Seeing her broke my heart. I reached out, wanting to touch her face. She was just a childโ€”how had this happened?

It's Nicole's fault!

Last night, Ann said I was dead, and today this happened to her. Why is the world so unfair? Good people don't last, but the wicked thrive.

I can't accept this! I'm already gone. I don't want Ann caught in this. Why couldn't it have been Nicole instead?

Why!!!

One doctor whispered, "Did someone turn down the AC? It's freezing in here."

"There's no wind, but it's eerily cold," another added. "I have goosebumps."

A nurse said, "I'll check the AC."

The doctors worked seamlessly, the only sounds the beeping of machines and the rustling of instruments.

Looking at Ann, still unconscious, I knelt by the window. I prayed for a miracle. I'd give anything, even my chance at reincarnation, to save Ann's life.

Maybe the heavens heard my prayer, because a doctor suddenly exclaimed, "It's a miracle!"
