Chapter 131
Heather was on edge. โMy daughter mentioned death and a lot of blood earlier. Could she have seen something? Oh God, Amanda was such a good person. She didnโt deserve this.โ
โThereโs no proof sheโs dead. Sheโs just missing,โ Chase reminded her firmly.
โRight, right. I shouldnโt jump to conclusions.โ
Chase shifted his gaze toward the hospital room. โHowโs Ann holding up?โ
Heather sighed heavily. โNot well. After you passed out, my daughterโs condition worsened. The doctors have her on medication nowโฆ itโs all in fateโs hands.โ
A knot formed in my stomach. Annโs reaction when she saw Chase felt like a brief spark of life, as if she were clinging on to deliver a message about me.
After offering Heather comfort, Chase left for the doctorโs office. He insisted on doing everything possible to save Ann, sparing no expense.
The ICU cost was exorbitant, beyond their familyโs means. Chase, however, secretly topped up Annโs medical account with half a million dollars, waiting for Ann to recover and reveal the truth.
Nicole, after treatment, was moved to the VIP ward, where the Kennedy family had gathered. As soon as Chase entered, they glared at him angrily. My mother fumed, โWhat, now that Nicoleโs okay, youโre here to finish the job?โ
โMom, donโt be like that with him. This isnโt his fault,โ Nicole interjected.
โNicole, youโre defending him?โ
They all berated Chase.
I watched Nicole, another Kennedy daughter, receive pampering. I couldnโt help but notice the stark contrast between our lives. I had once clung to life in a hospital, ignored by everyone. Even when my family appeared, it was only to scold me for wasting their time. Meanwhile, the entire family devoted themselves to Nicole.
I wondered what their reactions would be if they discovered their precious daughter had ended my life.
Just then, a doctor appeared. โWhatโs all this commotion?โ he asked, frowning coldly. โDonโt you know a pregnant woman needs peace to rest?โ
Pregnant? Nicole was pregnant?
It wasnโt a surprise, considering Nicole and Chaseโs recent indiscretions. But why did it have to be her?
I clenched my fists, eyes squeezed shut, thinking of my unborn child. Why did my child never see the light of day, while she, the murderer, carried another life? Bitterness and fury consumed me.
The doctorโs words hit the Kennedy family like a bombshell. My brother, peeling grapes for Nicole, dropped one, sending it flying. My motherโs face froze. โPregnant? You must be mistaken. We donโt have a pregnant woman here.โ
A nurse presented a report. โThis is Ms. Kennedyโs report.โ
My father snatched it; my brother joined him. They examined the blood analysis report, revealing a sonogram at the bottom. The doctor circled the results. โSheโs almost six weeks along. You didnโt know?โ
The familyโs faces soured.
With a strained smile, my mother said, โThank you for letting us know, doctor. Our daughter kept it a secret.โ
โPregnant women need special care, especially in the first trimester. No more reckless behavior; thereโs a life at stake.โ
Nicole touched her belly, smiling softly. โI understand, doctor. I wonโt act foolishly again.โ
Once the doctor left, my father threw the report on the table, his voice low and heavy. โNow, tell me, whose bastard are you carrying?โ
