Chapter 275: Anna's Pregnancy Is At Risk

I stood to the side, watching, finding the scene utterly absurd. Not long ago, the Sanders and Luke had aimed all their firepower at me, desperately defending Anna. I could still vividly recall it. And now, look at them. The Sanders had crumbled, and even Lukeโ€”who had once cared for Anna most deeplyโ€”had become her most ardent despiser. How quickly things had changed.

Josh had dyed his hair black for her wedding and donned a sharp, custom-tailored suit, but his exhaustion was unmistakable, no matter how hard he tried to appear strong. โ€œFine, fine, do whatever you want,โ€ he muttered, his disappointment palpable. Things had long since spiraled out of his control. His hopes for his daughter had crumbled into regret.

The doctor promptly scheduled Annaโ€™s appointment. Luke followed the group, his expression cold and detached. โ€œAnna, this time Iโ€™m watching you. Letโ€™s see how you fake it.โ€

โ€œLuke, do you really hate me that much? After all the years we spent together, Iโ€ฆโ€

Luke impatiently interrupted, โ€œShut up! I know exactly what kind of woman you are. I donโ€™t want to hear your ugly voice. I only care about the results. If that baby isnโ€™t mine, Anna, I wonโ€™t let you off the hook.โ€

Luke, who once looked at Anna with kindness, now only held eyes full of disgust and hatred. It was as if, at any moment, he might tear her apart. Josh sat on the hallway bench, staring blankly at the slowly closing door. Suddenly, he turned toward me. Perhaps in a daze, I heard him softly whisper, โ€œChloeโ€ฆโ€ โ€œToo bad; your daughter has been gone for a long time.โ€ I pretended not to hear and turned away.

Silas had already been taken into surgery, and the doctor handed me his examination results. Several ribs were broken, but none had punctured vital organs. Still, his condition was serious; his entire body was damaged. His internal organs had suffered, and worst of all, his right hand was crippled, shattered beyond repair. I looked at Carter and said, โ€œThis couldnโ€™t have been an accident, right?โ€

Carter replied dismissively, โ€œIf he were less useful, his left hand wouldโ€™ve been gone too.โ€ Silas was still undergoing surgery when Anna was discharged. Luke stood at the door, cold as ever, and asked, โ€œWhen will we know the results?โ€

โ€œMr. Luke, typically it takes about three to four weeks, but with an expedited request, the fastest would be seven days.โ€

โ€œIf anyone interferes with or tampers with the results, you will all be fired!โ€

โ€œUnderstood, Mr. Luke.โ€ The doctor had never seen Luke in such a violent mood. Carter quietly removed Annaโ€™s people, ensuring no one else could cause trouble.

Seven days. That was all it would take to determine whose child Anna was carrying. She had been injured and was bleeding, so she needed to stay in the hospital to protect her pregnancy. Annaโ€™d just had an amniocentesis, and now she needed an injection to stabilize the pregnancy. When I arrived, she looked drained and defeated, her face pale and weak. Her swollen face had subsided, revealing her original features. As soon as she saw me, she quickly sat up, clearly not wanting me to see her in such a pitiful state.

โ€œItโ€™s you, isnโ€™t it?โ€ She glared viciously.

โ€œMs. Sander, I donโ€™t quite understand what you mean.โ€ I looked at her without malice, my expression calm and neutral. Annaโ€™s cold eyes fixed on me. โ€œCarter has been investigating me, and itโ€™s you whoโ€™s helping Sadie behind the scenes! Otherwise, how could that idiot Sadie expose what happened between Silas and me?โ€

โ€œAnna, if you donโ€™t want anyone to find out, maybe you should stop doing shady things. You were the one who schemed against me first, trying to use Melissa to ruin my reputation. You even arranged for those men to hurt me. Iโ€™m really curiousโ€”what grudge do we have that you have to be so cruel to me?โ€

Anna locked eyes with me, seemingly trying to figure out who I was. โ€œDidnโ€™t you start it, Zoey? I have no grudge against you, yet you plotted against me at the Boltons and humiliated me at the art competition. Now you have the nerve to question me?โ€ Anna dropped her pretense and went straight to the point.

Hearing her accusations, I couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œAnna, have you forgotten? The painting competition was where you stole Chloeโ€™s work. As for the Boltonsโ€”wasnโ€™t that you trying to get rid of me? I merely took advantage of the situation. Where do you get the nerve to question me?โ€ In her eyes, she could never be wrongโ€”everyone else was to blame.

โ€œWhat are you trying to do? Iโ€™ve died once; now I just want to live properly. By the way, Ms. Sander, Iโ€™m sure youโ€™re dying to know about your lover. Hereโ€™s his medical report.โ€ I handed Anna the document, and as soon as she saw Silasโ€™s condition, her eyes filled with tears. โ€œYou did this on purpose, didnโ€™t you?โ€

Iโ€™m just curious. Back at the Boltons, you acted like you were madly in love with Luke. Now, all of a sudden, youโ€™re genuinely concerned about this man. Could he be the one you truly care for?โ€ A trace of guilt crossed Annaโ€™s eyes. โ€œYouโ€™re talking nonsense. Itโ€™s not like what you think!โ€

โ€œThen what kind of relationship is it? Iโ€™m all ears.โ€

โ€œWhy should I tell you? Zoey, if you dare to mess with us, youโ€™ll pay for it. One day, youโ€™ll end up dying tragically, and then youโ€™ll understand.โ€ Her threat almost pushed me to reveal my identity. But I knew it wasnโ€™t the right time yet. I still needed Anna to draw out the mastermind. โ€œYouโ€™re in no position to do anything to me. But as for your lover, he wonโ€™t be so lucky. You lied to Luke, and he wonโ€™t let him get away with it!โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s Luke going to do to him?โ€

I shrugged nonchalantly. โ€œWho knows? Menโ€™s jealousy isnโ€™t any less than womenโ€™s. Anna, if youโ€™re going to blame anyone, blame yourself for playing both sides. Isnโ€™t your action backfiring now? Anyway, itโ€™s getting late; I need to leave.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t go, Zoey, you need to explain yourself!โ€ She tried to grab me, but was so weak that she fell from her bed. Anna was already at risk with her pregnancy, and the sudden movement caused her to bleed. The bright red stain spread across her clothes. The sight of that bright red reminded me of myself, six months ago. I collapsed to the floor due to her provocation, dragging myself slowly toward the door, leaving a trail of blood behind me.

โ€œBlood! So much blood!โ€ Anna didnโ€™t know that what goes around comes around. I hadnโ€™t intentionally provoked her, but now she was following the same path I had taken. She looked at me, frantic. โ€œZoey, get the doctor!โ€
