Chapter 299: Bill Isnโ€™t Your Father

+10 Free Coins

When the video played, the room fell silent. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Originally, this segment of the event was the least interestingโ€”it was about the companyโ€™s history. But now, it was like an elderly professor suddenly breaking into a dance during a history lectureโ€”impossible to ignore. No one even blinked.

At first, some people thought it might just be a quirky disagreement between the couple, but soon they realized something was amiss. Although Monicaโ€™s face was blurred, her body, skin tone, and voice were clearly not the same as the woman sitting beside Bridget.

Sadie was terrified. She could say with absolute certainty that the woman in the video was her mother. The others didnโ€™t know, but Sadie did. Monica had a small red mole on her chestโ€”she had seen it many times during their spa visits. How could she forget?

Sadie nervously glanced at Bill. If he found out her mother was having an affair, it would be over. Bill, however, seemed completely calm. He sipped his champagne leisurely, his face devoid of any signs of anger or surprise, simply enjoying the show. It was as if none of this concerned him. He looked like just another spectator.

The crowd started murmuring. โ€œOh my God, I thought Mr. Harrison was one of the few decent men in our business circle. He loves his wife, takes care of his family, and stays faithful.โ€

โ€œWho doesnโ€™t cheat nowadays?โ€ someone else muttered.

Bridget snapped out of her shock and reacted quickly, instinctively covering her youngest sonโ€™s eyes. Her family, particularly Zackโ€™s father-in-law, had an outburst. Years ago, Zack had entered the family as the live-in son-in-law, with no real standing. Even though he had grown successful, he still had a deep-rooted fear of his father-in-lawโ€™s disapproval.

โ€œZack, what have you been doing out there?โ€ Zack shouted angrily. โ€œTurn it off! Turn it off now!โ€

Before he could finish his sentence, Bridgetโ€™s father slapped him hard across the face. Bridgetโ€™s mother wasnโ€™t one to stay calm in such situations, and with her long, manicured nails, she scratched at him. โ€œWe only have one daughter! You promised youโ€™d treat her well, and this is what you do? You disgracefulโ€ฆโ€

Sadie didnโ€™t understand why Monica would choose someone like Zack to be her lover, but Bill didnโ€™t seem to know. She breathed a sigh of relief and joined in with the crowd. โ€œRight! He looks like a pig, absolutely disgusting. Heโ€™s got a wife at home and still cheats! He deserves to be punished!โ€

I smiled to myself as I watched. Sadie was being ruthless, cursing her own father like that. Bill swirled his champagne glass, standing apart from the crowd, his lips curling into a cold smile. โ€œIโ€™ve lost my family. What gives you the right to be happy?โ€

Sadie instinctively glanced at him. โ€œDad, what did you just say?โ€

โ€œNothing.โ€

Sadie studied his face carefully, making sure he hadnโ€™t figured out it was Monica in the video. Once she was certain, she relaxed.

โ€œI canโ€™t believe Mr. Harrison is morally corrupt.โ€

Bill shot her a knowing glance and said, โ€œYeah, heโ€™s pretty rotten. A father like that probably raises a kid whoโ€™s just as bad.โ€

Sadie blinked, sensing something deeper in his words. Forget the ribbon-cuttingโ€”Zack had nearly been beaten to death by Bridgetโ€™s family.

The screen finally turned off, and Bridget glared at Zack before slapping him hard across the face. โ€œZack, weโ€™re getting a divorce.โ€

โ€œDarling, listen to me; let me explain,โ€ Zack begged.

Bridget, though seemingly gentle, was actually a woman of few words and great resolve. She didnโ€™t say another word. Grabbing their childโ€™s hand, she turned and walked away. Zack had no shame, but she still had her dignity. She didnโ€™t want to leave her child with a scar that would last a lifetime.

Zack could hardly believe his big moment at the ribbon-cutting had turned into this. He scrambled to follow her. โ€œDarling, donโ€™t go! Please, just listen to me!โ€ But Bridget didnโ€™t look back, keeping her head straight as she walked away.

The ribbon-cutting was forgotten, and the guests and media dispersed. Zackโ€™s eyes suddenly turned toward Bill. He was certain Monica had given Bill that video! Bill must have discovered their affair. His face was covered with scratches from nails, but Bill stood above him, as though looking down from a throne.

Bill set his champagne glass down on a tray and walked slowly toward Zack. โ€œMr. Harrison, quite the mess youโ€™ve made.โ€

Zack wasnโ€™t foolish enough to admit anything here. If Bill knew all his plans, Zackโ€™s fate would be sealed! How could he stand up to Bill? Even if Zack had reached his current level of success, Bill could crush him with a single move.

But Bill didnโ€™t lash out at him. He was too proud to stoop to that level. Instead, it was Sadie who spoke up, spitting on the ground. โ€œBah! What a scumbag!โ€

I watched the drama unfold and then walked over to Zack. โ€œMr. Harrison, ambition isnโ€™t a bad thing. But using any means necessary to get what you want will only lead to self-destruction.โ€

Zack glared viciously at me, knowing all his plans had been exposed. I radiated a cold, icy aura, my heels clicking sharply as I locked eyes with him. Lowering my voice, I said, โ€œTrying to take what doesnโ€™t belong to you? This is the result. By the way, Snowville doesnโ€™t have room for people like youโ€”those who would harm others for their own gain. Would you rather leave on your own, or should I make you leave? Your choice.โ€

With that, I turned and walked away. If he stayed any longer, the local powersโ€”the Boltonsโ€”would have no trouble crushing him. His base was in Bafria, but now that he had offended Bill, there was no way out. Zack had worked for 20 years, only to watch it all fall apart.

Bill parted ways with Sadie at the door. I saw Sadie immediately contact Monica and head to the hotel. Monica had been locked up there since yesterday. I accessed the security footage and saw Sadie storming up to her, asking, โ€œMom, did you betray Dad?โ€

Monica hadnโ€™t slept all night. She looked deeply despondent. Her phone had been taken by Bill, and it wasnโ€™t until this was all exposed that she got it back. Monica had a pretty good idea of what had happened.

โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œMom, why are you so foolish? Dad has done so much for us. Why would you betray him? And if you had to cheat, why pick someone like him? Heโ€™s a pig! How could you even kiss him?โ€

Monica responded coldly. โ€œSadie, you canโ€™t say that about him.โ€

โ€œWhy not? Heโ€™s not my dad! You have no idea how scared I was today. I thought Dad might find out that the woman in the video was you.โ€

Monica smiled. โ€œYouโ€™re such a silly child. How could he not know? Why else would he blur my face? It wasnโ€™t to protect me, but to protect his family reputation.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s impossible! If Dad saw you cheating, thereโ€™s no way he would be so calm.โ€ Sadie denied.

โ€œBecause Bill isnโ€™t your father! He doesnโ€™t love me, and he doesnโ€™t love you.โ€
