Chapter 349: Iโll Take Care of Your Body
After spending half a month in Snowville, Billโs focus shifted from the company. He had handed over all his responsibilities to me and planned to leave soon. That night, we shared a farewell dinner.
โTomorrow, Iโm going back home, Zoey. The company is yours from now on,โ Bill said.
I understood. He was eager to return to his mother, and I didnโt mind. โDad, I wonโt let you down,โ I promised.
โCarter, you take care of her. If you hurt her, I wonโt forgive you,โ Bill warned.
โDonโt worry, Bill. Even if it costs me my life, I wonโt let Zoey down.โ
I quickly tugged at his sleeve and chided playfully, โHey, donโt you dare say things like that.โ
โAlright, Iโll take good care of her,โ Carter said, raising his glass in agreement.
As we were leaving the restaurant, we saw Sadie running toward us, looking disheveled and covered in blood. In just half a month, I learned that her life had taken a sharp turn for the worse. Ashley had done everything he could to force her to transfer her house and car to him, but Sadie had refused. They had been battling back and forth.
Later, Sadie went to her biological father, Zack, but under Billโs pressure, he was quickly losing everything. He had already transferred part of his assets to his wife and children, divorced, and married the ever-persistent Monica. Monica had thought she was living her dream, but after marrying Zack, he filed for bankruptcy, and they both found themselves buried under a mountain of debt. Zack, struggling to stay afloat himself, had no way to help Sadie.
Sadie blamed Monica for their affair being discovered by Bill and put all the blame on her. Once a pampered heiress, Sadie now found herself living in hiding, leading a miserable life. She had severed ties with Monica.
When I saw her again, she had changed dramatically. Though it was warmer in April, she wore a thin dress, and her exposed skin bore all kinds of marks. Gone was the pride on her face; she was kneeling before Bill, begging.
โDad, if you donโt help me, Ashley and those people will kill me! Youโre all I have left!โ
Bill looked at her coldly, with no trace of sympathy. โIsnโt this what you deserve?โ
Chapter 340: Iโll Take Care of Your Body
โDad, that bastard wanted me to sleep with those perverted old men. I didnโt want to get pregnant with theirโฆ He even threatened to kill me if I didnโt film an adult movie. Dad, Iโm out of options. Please, just help me this one last time.โ
Seeing her like this, I couldnโt help but think back to the day she and Ashley had gone to the auction. If she hadnโt been so arrogant, casually buying millions of dollars worth of clothing, she wouldnโt have drained Ashleyโs money. On the other hand, if she hadnโt stolen Zoeyโs boyfriend and deliberately provoked Zoey, that girl wouldnโt have died, and Sadie wouldnโt have ended up in such a miserable state. So, what goes around comes around. She reaped what she sowed.
Bill snapped her fingers one by one, his face as emotionless as ever. โThen you should die. As your father, if you die, Iโll take care of your body.โ Sadieโs tears fell as she heard those ruthless words.
โDad, how could you do this to me? You used to spoil me so much. Whatever I wanted, youโd buy for me. You always agreed to my requests. Even though we donโt share blood, it doesnโt change the fact that youโve been my father for twenty years! Even if itโs just a dog, youโd feel something! How could you be so cruel?โ
Bill looked down at her, disdain in his eyes. โYouโre right. Iโm a cruel father, but because of you, I neglected my own daughter. Iโll be punished for that, but you think you can just go on like nothing happened? Youโre naive.โ
โDad!โ
โThe biggest regret of my life was ever acknowledging a beast like you as my daughter,โ Bill said bitterly. He took out his phone and said, โIโve already informed Ashley of your whereabouts. Enjoy the life you deserve, Sadie. If you steal from others, youโll have to pay it back.โ
โDad!!!โ
Bill didnโt look back at her. He turned to me and said, โLetโs go. Itโs getting late.โ I glanced at Sadie, lying on the ground, disheveled. I didnโt mock her or pay her any more attention. I simply got into the car.
โZoey, please lend me some money! I beg you. Iโll leave this country and never show my face again,โ she cried.
I pried her fingers off the door frame one by one. โSadie, I owe you nothing. You owe Zoey. Go to hell and pay it back. Donโt let me see you again.โ There was no need for me to do anything. With all the debts she owed, countless people were waiting to collect.
As the car drove away, I saw her chasing after us. โDonโt go, please! Iโm begging you!โ She stumbled and fell, her desperate face appearing in the rearview mirror.
I bet she would never feel remorse for the harm she caused Zoey. She was simply a product of circumstance, not someone who realized her mistakes. She was hopeless, unable to find redemption in this life.
I sighed softly. Sadie was just a pitiful creature, incapable of stirring up any real trouble. What weighed on my mind were Whitney and Anna. If I could catch Anna and have her go to the police and confess everything, the truth would come out. But since that night she disappeared, it was as if she had vanished from the earth.
I hadnโt been to school in days. Yael hadnโt moved either. He hadnโt reached out to me. It felt like everything had gone quiet. The weather warmed, and Snowvilleโs snow finally melted. The city shifted to spring overnight. The flowers bloomed on the branches, and the trees sprouted new leaves, sweeping away the gloom of winter. Burt would always remember everything that happened that winterโthe people buried under the blanket of white.
โChloe, what are you thinking? Whatโs with that expression of yours?โ
โHow do we lure a cave-hiding snake, Carter?โ
Carter squeezed my hand tightly and said, โI wonโt let you be the bait, Chloe. Itโs too dangerous.โ
โDonโt worry, Carter. I value my life too much. I donโt plan on doing it myself.โ
โSo what do you mean?โ
โWeโll spread the word that Grandma has woken up, then report it to the police, providing them with evidence and clues. Do you think some people might panic and do something reckless?โ
โThatโs not a bad idea.โ
Grandmaโs mention of the Carlyns suggests a connection between both families. She might have more evidence. Plus, if we expose what Anna did to her, the police can issue a warrant for Annaโs arrest.
Carter agreed, โPenelopeโs health has improved a lot recently. We can bring her out temporarily. Just having her appear in public and announcing sheโs recovering will be enough to make those people panic. Then, we can simply set up the trap and wait for the large fish to bite.โ
