Chapter 366 Have A Good Life

The old lady's accent was very similar to that of people from Sole. I never expected to meet someone from my hometown in a foreign country. The stone I was holding looked like marble on the surface; someone seeing it might mistake it for some sort of protective charm. But when the old woman saw it, her face turned pale with shock, readily recognizing it.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? This stoneโ€ฆโ€ I asked, noticing her reaction.

โ€œYoung girl, some things shouldnโ€™t be worn casually. If you do that, it could cost you your life,โ€ she said, her face full of urgency.

I couldnโ€™t share the truth about my rebirth with a stranger, so I thanked her politely. โ€œThank you for the reminder.โ€

โ€œDo you know what this is?โ€ she asked, her eyes narrowing.

โ€œYes,โ€ I replied.

She looked at me deeply, sighed in resignation, and walked away, taking the lotus pod she had just picked. As she left, I heard her muttering something under her breath: โ€œGood advice canโ€™t change a doomed soul; compassion wonโ€™t save a self-damned person; no god can save someone already dead, and only the king of hell will claim those who are filled with regret.โ€

For some reason, those words made me feel uneasy, and an odd tension stirred inside me. A breeze passed by, and the lotus leaves danced in the wind. My hair fluttered along with it, and Carter walked over, escaping my notice.

โ€œWhat are you thinking about? Arenโ€™t you getting hot standing here?โ€ he asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I looked up and realized that Carter had found a large lotus leaf and was holding it over me to shield me from the sun.

โ€œCarter, I just met a strange old lady,โ€ I said, still a little confused.

โ€œStrange? How so?โ€ he asked.

I explained what had happened, still puzzled. โ€œWhy did she react so strongly when she saw my stone? When I said I wore it willingly, she started talking about how good advice canโ€™t save the doomed and other strange things.โ€

I had a feeling that if the pendant was soul-stabilizing, she shouldnโ€™t have said that. But if it wasnโ€™t the soul-stabilizing pendant, why would Carter have given it to me?

โ€œCarter, are you sure this is the soul-stabilizing pendant?โ€ I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.

He sighed and gently pushed a strand of hair that had stuck to my lips behind my ear. โ€œSilly girl, what else could it be?โ€

I murmured quietly, โ€œYeah, what else could it be?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t think too much. The important thing is that youโ€™re alive and well now. Thatโ€™s all that matters, right?โ€

I looked into his deep, dark eyes. I couldnโ€™t quite read his emotions, maybe because he was standing with the light behind him. His eyes seemed like an endless void, impossible to understand.

I placed my hand on his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. โ€œCarter, youโ€™re not hiding anything from me, are you?โ€

His hand cupped the back of my head, and he bent down to rest his forehead against mine. We locked eyes, our noses almost touching.

โ€œChloe, what could I possibly hide from you?โ€ he whispered.

I didnโ€™t understand. He suddenly became gentle and attentive toward me.

โ€œI donโ€™t know. What else could you want from me?โ€ I asked, feeling a bit lost.

He smiled softly, a playful glint in his eyes. โ€œI do have something I want.โ€

โ€œHmm?โ€ I raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

He gently nudged my nose with his, like a playful puppy. โ€œI just want you to have a good life.โ€

I wrapped my arms around his neck, smiling up at him. โ€œThen you need to live a long life too, so you can grow old with me.โ€

He kissed me fiercely, his hands gripping my waist so tightly that I could barely breathe. The lotus leaf fell at my feet, and I clung to him as his kisses rained down on me like a storm. Was it just me, or did I feel like his emotions were running high at that moment?

โ€œCarter, y-youโ€™re hurting me,โ€ I panted heavily, pulling away.

He looked at me, his eyes filled with an expression I couldnโ€™t quite understand.

โ€œSorry,โ€ he said softly, his gaze shifting to the nearby lotus pod. โ€œDo you want to eat some lotus seeds? Iโ€™ll go pick some for you.โ€

โ€œSure,โ€ I smiled.

He handed me the lotus leaf and said, โ€œHere, hold this and sit tight while I get them.โ€ With that, he slipped off his shoes and socks, rolled up his pants, and waded into the water.

I sat on the shore, gently stirring the water with my feet, enjoying the peaceful simplicity of this life more and more. I even started thinking how wonderful it would be if we had a child. It wasnโ€™t the right time to think about such things, but I couldnโ€™t help it. I loved him so much. I couldnโ€™t wait to have a child that would be the fruit of our love.

Whether a boy or a girl, I would love our baby with all my heart, making sure the tragedy of the past never happened again. If we had a child, maybe they would be standing on the shore, clapping their hands and saying, โ€œDaddy is the best!โ€ Just imagining that scene filled me with joy.

When Carter returned with a bunch of lotus seeds in his hands, he gently tapped my forehead with his wet fingers. โ€œYou were daydreaming again. What made you smile like that?โ€

I wrapped my arms around his neck in a playful manner. โ€œCarter, I want to have a baby.โ€

Chapter 367 Iโ€™ve Never Blamed You, Dad

Carter shifted his gaze away and said, โ€œThe mastermind behind it all hasnโ€™t been found yet. Weโ€™re still in danger, so letโ€™s hold off on discussingโ€ฆโ€
