Chapter 88  She was doing her best to keep her anger in check. “Nicole, whatever you’re after, I’ve already handed over the shares you wanted. I’m not asking for much, just for Amanda to come back. This isn’t some kind of sick joke!”  “Joke?” Nicole pulled out her phone. “You really think I’m joking with you? Take a look at how your granddaughter was skinned”  As she scrolled for the photo, she told Grandma, “Oh, you don’t know when she passed, do you? It was on her wedding night. She went to Ruby River all alone, heartbroken, and someone stabbed her twice in her vital spots. Her body fell by the water, and there was blood everywhere.”  “Before she died, she tried to call Chase for help. At that time, Chase was with me, watching fireworks. Her blood slowly drained away, and she tried to reach for her phone. I guess she wanted to say goodbye to you, but unfortunately, she couldn’t even touch her phone before she took her last breath.  “Her body was brought back, and to make the skinning easier, we applied a special solution to her skin. Look, here’s the photo.”  The image on Nicole’s phone showed a lonely figure lying by the river on a snowy night, her white wedding dress a stark contrast to the glaring red of her blood. Even more ironic was the brilliant fireworks display across the river, lighting up the sky and her lifeless face.  I never imagined I’d see myself like this on Nicole’s phone.  The next photo showed my body, lying naked on a stone slab, covered in the solution.  Tears slowly filled Grandma’s eyes as she struggled to comprehend that her beloved granddaughter had left the world in such a disgraceful way, without even a chance to say goodbye.  She glanced at more photos of the skinning, but could only take it for a second before she raised her cane and swung it at Nicole’s head with all her might.  “You murderer! You’ll never find peace!”  Despite putting all her strength into the swing, Grandma was old, and Nicole easily dodged it, causing Grandma to miss and fall forward.  “Grandma!”  That was her using all her strength in that attack, and with nothing to stop her, she fell straight to the ground.  The wind howled, tossing her white hair into a mess. Her body slipped through my arms and hit the ground with a loud “thud.”  “Grandma, are you okay?”  I knelt by her side, desperate to make sure she was alright. My body shook uncontrollably.  “Somebody, help! Anyone!” I yelled frantically.  Nicole walked towards Grandma. I tried to grab her. “You monster. Get away! Leave her alone!”  She stopped in front of Grandma, her eyes cold and filled with hatred, completely devoid of sympathy.  “Does it hurt? This is just the beginning, old woman. This is what the Kennedy family owes me!”  “What do you really want?” Grandma’s face was streaked with tears, her voice hoarse.  Sensing something was wrong, she started shouting, “Help! Somebody help!”  Grandma had lost the ability to move; she could only crawl towards her phone. Just as she was about to reach it, Nicole stomped on her  hand.
