Chapter 138

Hayden was stunned. I was dumbfounded. The tingling sensation in my palms reminded me of what I had just done. I stared blankly at him as he slowly rose to his feet. Feeling the temperature plummet, Hayden didn't speak to me; he looked at Richard first. My teeth clenched involuntarily. That look, filled with murderous intent, scared Richard into quickly closing the file and dashing out the door, slamming it shut behind him.

In the blink of an eye, only Hayden and I remained in the vast office. His black eyes were gloomy as he stared at me in confusion. "What happened!" He was almost a head taller than me, and I had to look up to see his eyes clearly. At that moment, I saw a reflection of myself in his eyes—a lunatic, out of control and utterly disheveled.

I thought he would be furious, but he wasn't. Instead, he patiently asked what was wrong. A flicker of shock crossed my face, followed by a sneer. "What's the matter, Hayden? How can you do this?" I asked, the question confusing even myself.

Hayden's confusion deepened. He reached out to me, as if to steady me by the shoulders. I flinched back as if he were a monster, something to be feared and avoided at all costs. His hand met only air but didn't immediately retreat; it hung there, frozen.

Before he could speak, Marlon burst through the office door. "Yeonnie! Are you alright?" Behind him stood Richard, his face pale. "Mr. Parker, I tried to stop him…"

Their sudden appearance brought me back to my senses. I ran out like a madwoman, with no time for anyone. Instinctively, Hayden gave chase, but as soon as he moved, Marlon unexpectedly grabbed him by the collar. His solid fist landed, sending Hayden's face to the side. Hayden thought, Being hit by my own woman was one thing, but what gave Marlon the right to hurt me?

Hayden's temper flared, and he retaliated with a punch. Marlon was knocked back a few steps before hitting the corner of a table, scattering documents across the floor. Richard finally recovered and rushed to intervene. "Mr. Parker!" Hayden flung him aside, his eyes like a grim reaper's as he stared at Marlon. "Are you crazy, or am I?" He thought, What is going on today? Why are they both so out of control?

Marlon spat out a mouthful of blood, adjusted his stance, and stared coldly at Hayden. "If you're still a man, stop hurting Yvonne!" Hayden narrowed his long eyes. "This is between my wife and me. It's none of your business!" Marlon gritted his teeth and charged again, the two instantly locked in a brawl.

Chapter 138 (Continued)

Richard was dumbfounded. He thought, Mr. Parker can actually fight with someone! I thought he was always so calm and collected.

I wandered aimlessly on the streets after leaving Parker Group. The world felt vast and yet I felt like I didn't belong anywhere. Walking aimlessly, I was startled by a loud clap of thunder. Soon, it began to rain heavily. People around me sought shelter, but I felt like a zombie, sticking out like a sore thumb in the crowd. A kind soul directed me towards a shop, its awning shielding me from the cold rain.

Gazing at the misty scene, exhaustion washed over me, and I slowly crouched down. Soon, an umbrella appeared above my head. A childish voice followed, "Miss, don't you have an umbrella?" I looked up to see a little girl, about four or five years old, holding an umbrella over me. Although I didn't get wet, her action gave me endless warmth. I couldn't help but smile. "Yes."

"Then I'll hold the umbrella for you," the little girl said, sitting beside me. She was small and couldn't raise her hand very high. Worried the umbrella's edge would poke me, she tried her best to stretch her hand upward. At that moment, I froze.

It was hard to describe my feelings. A strange, cute little girl was trying hard to hold an umbrella for me in the rain. I had never felt anything for children, but I suddenly found her adorable. The turbulent emotions in my heart seemed to calm down at once. I smiled at her. "Young Lady, where are your parents?"

"Mommy is buying me a cake!" The little girl pointed to the cake shop behind us. It dawned on me that I was squatting at the entrance of a cake shop. "Thank you for holding the umbrella for me," I touched her head and said slowly.

"You're welcome! My mother said that we should be ready to help others," the little girl smiled, her eyes big, round, and pure. Soon, her mother came out with a strawberry cake, and the little girl happily followed her. After they walked away, I still stared blankly in their direction. I used to follow my mother around like that, asking for a cupcake. However, I was going to be a mother too. Thinking of this, I touched my stomach. It was still flat. I couldn't help but wonder if there was really life there.

Chapter 138 (Continued)

I was indeed too agitated when I heard the news this afternoon. Now that I had calmed down, I realized the child was innocent and had nothing to do with Hayden. Hitting him wouldn't change anything. I decided to keep the child, but I didn't want Hayden to learn about it.

Taking a deep breath, I checked my phone; it was full of missed calls from Hayden and Marlon. My eyes flickered, and I called Marlon back. "Hello?"

"Hello?"

"Where are you? Are you okay?" Marlon's voice was filled with unconcealed worry.

"It's okay. Don't tell Hayden," I reminded him.

"Don't worry, I didn't say anything. Are you feeling better? Where are you? I'll come pick you up." Marlon's tone was gentle, as if taking special care of me.

"I'll be home soon. Also, please help me sell my shares in Jackson Group as soon as possible." I made a huge decision. Before I had this child, I was concerned about my father's emotions, but now, I felt I must leave as soon as possible. The more it dragged on, the more dangerous it would be for me. If Hayden knew, he definitely wouldn't want this child.

Marlon responded quickly. "Okay, I'll take care of it for you." Just as I was about to hang up, Hayden's angry voice came from the other end of the line. "Are you talking to Yvonne?"
