Chapter 166
“Shut up!” Nevin’s anxiety surged, and he lunged toward Lucy. Yasir swiftly intervened. “Calm down!”
While soothing Nevin, Yasir addressed Lucy’s outburst. “Lucy, we’re all heartbroken over Yvonne. Mr. Parker hasn’t eaten in days; stop provoking him.”
“He hasn’t eaten for days?” Lucy sneered, glaring at Hayden. “He deserves to starve!” She thought, Those who harmed Yvonne are not good people! She knew exactly what Hayden had done to Yvonne over the years.
Nevin’s agitation flared again. “How dare you say that? Don’t think I won’t hit you just because you’re a woman!”
“The Parker family is amazing. You can’t even let others tell the truth?” Lucy snorted disdainfully. She was unafraid of Nevin, especially now.
“You!” Nevin fumed, struggling against Yasir’s restraining hold. “Alright,” Yasir pleaded. “She’s heartbroken. Why argue?”
“My Hayden is the one who’s truly heartbroken!” Nevin’s protest trailed off as he saw Lucy approach Hayden. “What’s she doing?”
Yasir turned to see Lucy confronting Hayden. Surrounding bodyguards instinctively moved to protect him, but Lucy ignored them, shouting, “Yvonne is dead! Are you satisfied now?”
Hayden’s back stiffened. He raised a hand, signaling the bodyguards to stand down. Lucy pressed closer, finger pointed accusingly. “The biggest mistake Yvonne ever made was falling in love with you! Hayden, you heartless bastard! She loved you for ten years! She gave you her heart and soul!”
“What did you do in return? You humiliated her with your new lover, brought Joanna into the company—you’re shameless! You even took Joanna to your family reunion! It’s disgusting! You should be the one dead, not her!”
Lucy had longed to say these things, but Yvonne had stopped her. Now, with Yvonne gone, she felt compelled to speak her mind.
Only after her tirade did she notice Hayden’s gaunt, depleted appearance. His eyes stared blankly at the sea, his lips dry and cracked. He’d lost not only his aura but his will to live. Lucy felt a heavy depression settle over her. He seemed like a dying old man.
After a long silence, Hayden whispered, “I’m sorry.” The short sentence held a lifetime of remorse. His voice, weakened by days without food, lacked its usual low, indifferent tone.
Lucy froze. She had planned a fierce scolding. But seeing him like this, the words caught in her throat. She clenched her fists, hating her own softness. Remembering Yvonne’s icy grave, tears welled up.
“What’s the use of saying sorry? She’s dead! Do you understand? You bastard!” She wanted to strike him, but the bodyguards intervened, pulling her back.
“Let go of me! You accomplices! You killed Yvonne!” Lucy screamed, her emotions unleashed. She didn’t try to control them; she sought justice for Yvonne.
Suddenly, Yasir arrived with a striking woman. “Lucy, stop!” He then addressed Hayden. “Mr. Parker, this is Kendall Perry. She says Ethan stole a video from her three days ago.”
Hayden stood abruptly. “What video?” He knew Ethan worked for Yvonne; his actions might be relevant. Lucy, knowing Ethan, quieted to listen.
Kendall, overwhelmed by the attention, explained, “I… I recorded a makeup video. A man knocked me unconscious. When I woke up, it was deleted…” She felt she hadn't been clear. She'd been scared and wanted to remain silent. Her fans urged her to report it. Unable to reach the police, she'd sought out the Parker family. Now, she regretted it.
“Where did Ethan go?” Lucy asked.
“I don’t know…” Kendall shook her head, wary.
Yasir turned to Hayden. “Ethan wouldn’t steal a random video. There’s something hidden.” He’d brought Kendall precisely because of this mystery.
Hayden frowned. “Where did you—take—the video?”
“In the hallway outside my room.” Kendall pointed. “Right there.”
Everyone looked. Hayden saw the corner faced the top floor where Yvonne had jumped. He immediately instructed Yasir.
“Quick! Get someone to find Ethan!”
Before Yasir could react, he saw Hayden’s sudden anxiety and quickly nodded. “I’ll go right away.”
After Yasir left, Lucy stared at the spot Kendall indicated, seeing nothing unusual. She wondered if she’d missed something. She scanned the area again and spotted Joanna’s face in a window.
Oh my god, that’s scary! Lucy’s heart pounded. Her sharp eyesight allowed her to see clearly from afar. Joanna, noticing her, quickly withdrew.
Lucy rolled her eyes. It’s not like I’m spying… Then, she realized, “Joanna seemed to be watching us… I heard the three Jackson family members were on the roof that night… Hayden, is it possible Yvonne didn’t commit suicide?”
She'd initially dismissed that thought, Yasir saying she was grieving. Later, she'd calmed down, feeling she'd overreacted. Joanna and Yvonne clashed, but that didn't mean murder. Yet, the thought lingered, especially knowing about the stolen video.
Hayden didn’t answer, but his deep gaze spoke volumes. Lucy looked at him coldly. “You have to avenge Yvonne!”
