Chapter 178
“Really?” Nagume exclaimed, rising excitedly. I followed her gaze to the door, where Dylan entered with Denton. Denton, a local fisherman, possessed a tall, strong physique honed by years at sea.
“Denton!” Nagume rushed toward him. Irene, who had been snacking on dried shrimp, also toddled over. The family embraced in a touching reunion.
Dylan, after acknowledging them, approached me. “Yvonne,” he said, “Denton will deliver the goods tomorrow. He can take us with him!” His voice held a hint of excitement.
“Okay,” I nodded, my hand instinctively caressing my lower abdomen. I yearned for a hospital check-up to ensure the baby's well-being, rather than returning to Elysiumville. I'd been eating and sleeping well, and felt no cause for alarm.
Early the next morning, Dylan and I set off with Denton. Before we left, Nagume discreetly handed me a gold bracelet, explaining that Denton had given it to her for me to return to her parents. I hugged her, thanking her for saving my life.
The delivery point was far; we walked over thirty miles carrying the fish. Fortunately, the goods consisted of dried fish and shrimp; otherwise, they would have perished long ago. Reaching our destination required immense effort. We waited two days before the consignee arrived. Denton gave him an extra basket of fish, pleading for a long time before securing passage for Dylan and me on a tricycle.
Half a day later, we reached a small town. Dylan sold some dried fish, exchanging it for money to take me to the town's only clinic for a checkup. The ultrasound machine, old and dilapidated, produced a blurry image, but it confirmed the baby's safety.
A wave of relief washed over me. “As long as you’re okay, baby,” I thought, “I am fine.”
I hadn't revealed my pregnancy to Dylan. He saw the gynecological examination but asked no questions. Upon seeing my report, his eyes widened. “Yvonne! You… you’re pregnant?”
“Yes,” I nodded, my eyes softening. I gently caressed my still-flat belly, unable to feel the baby yet.

Soon, the baby would grow. It was a wonderful, unexpected feeling, especially since Dylan was even more excited than I was. “Yvonne, why didn’t you tell me sooner? I haven’t been taking good care of you these past few days! I hope the baby didn’t get hurt!” Tears glistened in his eyes, surprising me. “Dylan…”
“Don’t worry, I will definitely take care of you and the baby!” he reassured me.
After a pause, I nodded. “Okay.”
“Let’s find a place to eat first. We can’t let the baby go hungry!” Dylan said, smiling, his eyes clear and pure.
As we left the clinic, the wall-mounted television, broadcasting international news, mentioned Elysiumville. “In the past half-month, Elysiumville has closed its coastlines, and foreign trade has been temporarily suspended. According to reliable sources, it seems that the Parker Group is searching for something at sea.” Dylan looked at me excitedly. “They must be looking for us!”
I frowned. The Parker family would, at minimum, feign a search to maintain appearances; it was a tactic that no longer affected me. I'd encountered little genuine kindness along the way.
Before I could respond, the TV screen showed Hayden's face. I froze.
The hostess announced, “It is reported that the CEO of Parker Group is getting remarried!”
The news was a shock. Hayden… remarried? They'd claimed to be searching the sea, yet he was already remarrying—leaving Joanna. Whom was he marrying now? My mind raced with analyses and possible answers.
Dylan was equally shocked. “Yvonne, are you divorced?” he asked incredulously.
I didn't know the answer. I'd repeatedly requested a divorce from Hayden in Elysiumville, but he'd refused to sign the papers. Now, shortly after my departure, he was remarrying. It felt over, despite the lack of official paperwork.
“Yes,” I nodded.
His shock deepened. “Then does he know you’re pregnant…”
I shook my head.
Chapter 178
There was no need to inform Hayden about the child. His remarriage signaled the end of our paths. While we wouldn't remain a couple, I didn't wish for enmity. Loving him had exhausted me; I lacked the energy to hate him.
“That bastard!” Dylan gritted his teeth, cursing fiercely. I rarely saw him so agitated; he was usually warm and cheerful.
I tried to comfort him. “Forget it, it’s all in the past. I have nothing to do with him now. It’s none of my business who he marries.”
“But he hasn’t even found you yet! He doesn’t even know you’re alive, and he’s already happily married someone else? I feel so bad for you!” He was angrier than I was.
Few could endure Hayden's actions in my position. The news didn't reveal his new wife's identity, likely to protect her. Hayden had always been this way—demanding and indifferent towards me, yet considerate of others.
I laughed. “Let’s go, Dylan. Don’t get angry for someone who’s not worth it. You’re only hurting yourself.”
