Chapter 186
No matter Hayden's motive, Marlon and I needed to be cautious when we met. I wouldn't reveal my location until I decided on my revenge.
Ebenezer finished his coffee in one gulp, checked the time, and asked, "There are still a few hours left. Where are you going?" He wasn't familiar with Elysiumville.
"I have somewhere to be," I replied. "Dylan, why don't you show Mr. Kennedy around?"
Dylan's nervousness was immediate. "Where are you going, Yvonne?"
Ebenezer interjected, "You can't leave! I have to hand you over to Marlon. If something happens on the way, that man will kill me!"
I frowned. He didn't seem to be joking. Sighing, I conceded, "Well, let's meet Marlon first, then."
"How about...another cup of coffee?" Dylan suggested.
Ebenezer vehemently waved his hand. "No more! Or I won't sleep tonight. This week has been nerve-wracking. I plan on sleeping well tonight!"
I hadn't slept well in a week either. Since returning from the border and hiding from various threats, we'd had neither decent meals nor moments of relaxation.
That evening, we went to a restaurant. I usually didn't miss Elysiumville's food, but after being away so long, I craved it. Dylan and I enjoyed the meal, but Ebenezer seemed displeased, staring at us with a puzzled expression. "This is what you've been missing? It's so ordinary."
"Perhaps it's not the taste, but the nostalgia for home," Dylan sighed softly. He was from Elysiumville, too, and felt the same.
Looking at my food, I found it surprisingly delicious. It wasn't the chef's skill, but simply being back in Elysiumville. I almost didn't make it back.
It was late when I saw Marlon. He rushed over, his black coat damp with dew. His gaze found me instantly.
"Marlon..." I wanted to greet him. Though we hadn't been apart long, we'd endured a crisis—a life-or-death situation. But before I could speak, he pulled me into his arms. His strength caused me to bump into his chest, stinging my nose. An irresistible force held me tightly.
Chapter 156
I didn't know if it was my imagination, but I felt his body trembling slightly. I almost forgot to breathe, wondering if my life truly meant that much to him. However, I didn't seek the answer. Dylan and Ebenezer were still present.
I chuckled, saying, "I'm still warm, right? Don't worry, I'm not a ghost." The awkwardness vanished. Ebenezer's wide eyes returned to normal; he even laughed. "If you were a ghost, what have I been doing these past few days?" Dylan also looked away, a slight smile playing on his lips.
Marlon regained his composure, suppressing his emotions, and released me. "It's good that you're alive." His longing and affection were condensed into those simple words.
I nodded, quickly changing the subject. "Where's Joanna?"
Dylan's attention sharpened. Marlon frowned. "She's at the Jackson residence. You want revenge now?" He'd been updated on my situation and promised to keep an eye on Joanna.
"If I could!" I clenched my fist, hatred blazing in my eyes.
"It's not the time yet. Besides, you're still pregnant," Marlon reminded me.
"Are you trying to talk me out of it?" I challenged, hearing the hesitation in his voice.
Marlon sighed. "I'll help you. But the situation isn't in your favor. What about the money in your overseas account and the Jackson Group? Revenge is easy; making the enemy suffer most is the challenge."
I pondered; his words were reasonable. I was alone, unwell, and pregnant. It wasn't the right time.
"How long do you want me to wait?" I asked stubbornly.
"At least until after the baby is born," Marlon replied firmly.
I fell silent. A year! I wanted to confront Joanna and Sophia now and kill them!
"No," I refused immediately.
Marlon seemed to expect this. "Think about it for a couple of days," he said.
I remained silent, my expression grave.
Ex-Husband Got Crazy When I Disappear
Every second of helplessness was agony. Marlon didn't press further, turning to Dylan. "Thank you very much," he expressed his gratitude sincerely, as if Dylan had protected a rare treasure.
Dylan was stunned, then smiled. "I'm just doing what I want. I'm very satisfied Yvonne is still alive." He acted out of his own volition.
Marlon nodded, patting him on the shoulder. Sometimes, words weren't necessary between men.
Ebenezer stretched. "Okay, I've delivered you; my task is done. I'll be going."
Marlon looked up. "I'll see you out." They walked toward the door.
Dylan noticed my silence. "What do you think?"
"I want revenge now!" I answered impulsively. Then I sighed. "Marlon's right. I still have the baby..." Subconsciously, I caressed my belly. The Parker family would never let this child go. Besides, I wasn't capable of much right now. Marlon's suggestion was likely the wisest.
However, I'd finally returned, and couldn't accept waiting another year for revenge.
Dylan remained silent, then said, "Revenge is a dish best served cold. Yvonne, I can wait with you until the perfect moment!"
